I'm Gaming Jay: Youtube gamer, let's player, retrogaming fan, and determined optimist... Join me in this series while I try out EVERY game in the book 1001 VIDEO GAMES YOU MUST PLAY BEFORE YOU DIE, before I die. The game review for each game will focus on the question of whether you MUST play this game before you die. But to be honest, the game review parts are just for fun, this series is more about the YouTube gamer journey. So let's play those classic retro games we grew up with, have fond memories of, or heard of but never got a chance to try! And with that said, the game review for today is...

Pinball Dreams is a classic retro game from the Amiga that was widely ported to a number of other systems. As far as pinball games go, this one does a great job of capturing the experience. The physics are smooth, the tables are colorful and varied, and the controls are good.
In Pinball Dreams you get to choose between one of four different pinball machines, including a rocket themed machine, a train themed machine, a music themed machine, and a nightmare themed machine. Each machine has a relatively distinct layout and includes many classic pinball mechanics. As best I can tell, in the rocket level your goal is to launch a rocket ship, in the train level it might be to rob a train, in the music level it seems to be to become a pop star, and in the nightmare level... hmmm... to fend off your own inner demons? To be honest, I'm really only guessing here (except for the music machine, in that one you are definitely trying to become a pop star). Being pinball after all, levels are broadly themed but specific stories and goals can be a little hard to ascertain.
In any event, ultimately, if you're not a pinball fan, I don't think this game is going to convert you. By my own admission I am not a pinball guy, and though I found this game entertaining, I likely wouldn't return to it. But, if pinball holds a special place in your heart then I don't think this game will disappoint.
➙ Must You Play It?
As far as pinball games go, this is a great retro title. That said, it is a pretty standard pinball affair. If you're not a pinball fan I suggest skipping this one, but if you are, have at it! You will likely enjoy yourself.
