  • [ – ] Roamancing reply I wonder if the issue with Toronto is that the culture there is set up to be driven in work and conventional success, rather than creativity. Perhaps that is why Hamilton and Winnipeg are better known for being the birth places of musicians in Canada.
    • [ – ] katburns parent reply that could contribute to it for sure. I think Winnipeg and Hamilton have also been traditionally 'working class' cities with industry shaping the city (similar to Oshawa, ON near where I grew up) so people get creative to change their life? Toronto is where you go to develop that perhaps, but lacks the roots in a weird way?
      • [ – ] Roamancing parent reply Interesting. With Winnipeg, I always wondered if some of that was the long, cold winters. I'm not a musician, but I do work as a creative, and despite the decision makers being in Toronto, I always think of Toronto as the place where the heart and essence is torn out of a project. I may be a little biased though.
        • [ – ] katburns parent reply There is a lot of heart here, still for sure. But you do have to generally do a lot of other things to make ends meet so...it can be a bit of a grind
          • Roamancing parent reply I should clarify that I think it is the decision makers / gate keepers that often pull the heart out of projects, as they try to define the creative in terms of what they believe will be successful.
  • [ – ] JustABloke reply Now that you mention it, each city does has a unique calling. In NZ the 3 main cities, Auckland/Yachting, Wellington/Theatre, Christchurch/Gardens. Our country is so small I guess you can say all our cities are music cities.
    • [ – ] katburns parent reply I used to live in NZ for a spell, and I loved Christchurch so much. I've not been back since the earthquake and I hear it's never been the same but yes, the gardens <3 and a very musical country!
      • [ – ] JustABloke parent reply Oh wow, small world, we never seem to hold on to talented people, even our own leave and rightly so, they deserve the best which other countries offer. I would so have loved to see one of your shows, damn! If you ever do a show in Wellington hit me up, I'll bring the extended family as well. 😄
        • [ – ] katburns parent reply I've been trying to find a way to your NZ for years. Almost had a chance w my last band but no one really seems to listen to KASHKA there (yet) so it's been hard to get a tour going. Open to suggestions :)
  • [ – ] LazyCook reply I'm still stuck in the trees, I should really branch out. Perhaps take a leaf out of your book. ==== crickets ====
