If you really want to get into another culture the opportunities to actually visit them and/or learn about them are now greater than ever before in history. If you have a team of horses pulling a wagon, but they're each pulling that wagon in a different direction that does not strengthen the cart. In fact, it may tear the cart apart! Too great an influx of different cultures without adequate preparations for their arrival in terms of resources, with too little knowledge of what to expect and too little time to prepare for it EMOTIONALLY most often leads to confusion and misunderstandings and long term animosities between groups that hold conflicting ideas, values etc. General disunity. A house divided against itself cannot stand.
    • fancyfig parent reply sometimes those horses will lead you to places where you don't want to go, so it might be better to keep the wagon where it is. it's true that you can learn other perspectives online like no other time in history, but the reality is that that isn't how most people use the internet, rather they use it to reinforce their own culture and ideology, and when there isn't some genuine diversity in what people are exposed to online or irl then the more ridicules notions don't get challenged and the bad ideas fester and grow. that being said, rushed diversity or any policy which goes directly against the grain of a population's wishes is never a good policy to have.
  • Flying_Purple_Pizzas reply I think purple people are better. Just saying.
