It's our last day here at Lake Constance and we are still in Lindau. We didn't really know what to do so we decided to go to the port and check out all the ship connections to see where we could go this time. The last time we were at Lake Constance, we already passed by Meersburg but didn't stop. Since we wanted to go there someday anyway we spontaneously decided to buy the tickets for the boat and to go there. It took quite some time get there but it was worth it. The ride along the coast was beautiful and eventhough the weather wasn't really good we got a nice surprise when we arrived there. On this day or better weekend Meersburg was hosting a Medieval Market with many vendors and also a small parade, it was awesome and we had a great day. Meersburg is a town of Baden-Württemberg in the southwest of Germany at Lake Constance. It is known for its medieval city. The lower town ("Unterstadt") and upper town ("Oberstadt") are reserved for pedestrians only, and connected by two stairways and a steep street ("Steigstrasse"). The name of the town means "Castle on the Sea", referring to a castle which was built here in 630 by the Merovingian king Dagobert I. The town is home to two castles, the Old Castle and the New Castle. The Old Castle, built by Merovingian King Dagobert I in the seventh century, accepts visitors. A self-guided tour is available. Also two medieval town-gates can be seen, which are the remainders of the fortification. Meersburg is also reachable by pleasure boats from Lake Constance to Überlingen, to Lindau, Bregenz and to Constance.
