  • [ – ] sffrog25 reply I bet some big money(like Soros) are paying these sites to censor us. Look at Patreon, they are plugging holes where indie content creators can make a living.
  • [ – ] DisrespectfulBastard reply its time we make our own hosting site.
    • [ – ] abetterwest parent reply I've been seeing this sentiment a lot. I'm a CS student and long time freelance web developer. This is very possible if planned right from both the business and engineering end. The startup costs could easily be below 10,000 dollars. The most important thing from the engineering end would be to make sure the back and front end scale up and down easily. This reduces dev costs and time. Start with a VPS hosting solution from digital ocean and go dedicated if growth requires. Choosing a stack of software development tools is another big challenge. You could use react with HTML5 or try to find technologies not owned by Facebook (Facebook is evil). From a business end of things timing, endorsements, and reach are core issues. The best time to roll a new video hosting platform out is when one of the big players makes a mistake. Adpocaplyse and the latest YT censorship campaign are great times. Getting big YTers to promote and use the service, potentially back it financially and give them a...more voice in the project. When it comes to reach a strong brand is important as well as not forcing the service into a niche user base. You want everything from makeup tutorials to political analysts to flourish. There's a lot more to consider.
      • FunkyMunky parent reply DO IT! *Throws money at screen*
      • [ – ] SirRidealot parent reply I am a web/mobile developer since 1996. There are stacks and platforms available including convenient hosting platforms like AWS. Question is a crew and funding. Disk space and bandwidth are the cost. Alternatively it could be a lightweight meta site that doesn't store the video payload, only metadata about it and search/discovery algos. Vid can sit on YouTube or Vidme or anywhere else, even if in limbo. The discovery and comments would be on alternative meta site. Creators would have to post the link to the video, meta tags, description, title and thumbnail. There are options.
        • [ – ] sffrog25 parent reply I think that's a great idea, like Drudge of videos
          • [ – ] SirRidealot parent reply Unfortunately nobody else thinks that way. I proposed that several months back, when Styx announced the cross channel support thing, which lead me to a few interesting channels, but did not go any farther. The code can be open source, the site mirrored, the database synced on the back end, and the foot print would be low. If monetized to the point when the project can afford very high costs of data storage and data transfer it can become a CrowdTube of sorts. Written by the people for the people. Not owned by any corporation and mirrored all over the world. Just need a crew of programmers who are down to write one. All necessary technology is available today...
            • [ – ] sffrog25 parent reply Do a crowd funding
              • SirRidealot parent reply Startups are hard. They require a lot of hours of development and dedication. Before any funding first there needs to be a project and some traction. But I have some hopes for Vid.me. This can be next big thing if they play their cards right, and drop the PC crap. Controversial Edge is the new Cool. Also this depends on on the big hitters like Sargon, who have not been posting here in two month now. Maybe we can pock him a bit about it. Varg left three month ago. Styx posts here regularly and I get my daily doze of 10.2 Spoon clanks (tm) here. I hope others will follow suite. I really do not want to use a thought policed site to either watch or post any content. It is up to us to make this place new home. Thus it is up to US to support our favorite stars here thus give them incentive to use VidMe. Perhaps if VidMe see that most of their traffic are for skeptics, and current even commentators they will see the light...
      • thegeth parent reply Maybe each content creator can host their own website in their homes and someone makes a website that Aggregates links to everyone's website?
    • ChrisHvide parent reply In order to set up a successful site like this other than the practical stuff like money for bandwidth, SSDs, lawyers etc, we'd need to set some rules beforehand. The site needs to work under an anti-censorship policy (within the law of course). Flagging should only occur if the video has illegal material such as movies, child porn, unpublicised information and so on. None of that Hate Speech, Harassment, Bullying nonsense. Those aren't grounds for taking down a video. If you're gonna be on the internet, be old enough to understand what life is.
  • tonygreene113 reply not the solution...let the damn category flow organically
  • SavageHenry reply I would do away with "picks" altogether. It is by nature a dedicated bias section designed to interfere with the organic popularity and growth of users. Also, you keep appealing to vidme's business sense. Have you considered that they may simply be ideologues that care more about their political worldview than they do about success or profits? I think people are placing too much focus on this site as an alternative platform for free speech. It was never marketed to us as such, and to expect it to be so is foolish.
  • Scratch_Paper_Games reply I pray to Vermont 5 times a day. Keep up the good words, Styx!
  • [ – ] Somnibrew reply Organic trending that simply reflects actual trends would allow the site to keep politically neutral while probably pleasing the majority of political commentators on the site. It's just a solution that makes sense, with Vidme there's certainly more hope of influencing the platform given its smaller size to Youtube so I say keep the pressure on them.
    • FunkyMunky parent reply I would bet that if it DID go trending that a lot of people would get bored of it and leave it organically. People are attracted to the controversy
  • Brandon95 reply Come on Vidme get your shit together, I like your site please don't fuck it up.
  • Shimeran reply It's not just the heavy hitters. From what I've seen, there's a pretty heavy anti sjw presence among the smaller creators including groups like mgtow. Pushing a liberal bias would be poison for a large part of the community.
  • [ – ] gryffyn reply They didn't get their gal into the White house . So they are rolling out the same changes anyway just doubled down.
    • Mountainghost556 parent reply You are exactly right, this is a internet coupe they want to take control from it's current form and silence all dissenting opinion to there agenda.
  • Althozgraz reply da fuq vidme, leftists are so commonly two faced and hypocritical. everything for me and none for thee.
  • The_Next_Six_Minutes reply If Vidme were Wal-Mart, and Craftsman adjustable wrenches were their top seller, they wouldn't allow managers to place Craftsman adjustable wrenches near the front of the tools section to sell even more. Because reasons apparently.
  • thuggee reply to be honest if you allow everything to trend naturally then you see the real mood of the people.
  • LiveFreeOrDie reply (((youtube))) can fuck off straight to hell. Styx should open his own platform.
  • Winnor reply There is demand, huge demand... who's got the balls too forefill it? Maybe it's not vidme.
  • Debrajo33 reply Styx here is right. That's why I came over here. We'll see. Hmm. Sorry to see this. Don't be pushing your ideas in my face.
  • jackcrafty reply Many sites are built solely to be sold to the highest bidder later. Vidme doesn't have to make smart decisions on its way to a specified size goal before it sells. Hopefully, Vidme is not on this path and will take your good advice.
  • virtualmatrix258 reply Fuck 'em I'll go somewhere else. Fuck you vidme.
  • EmeraldSerpent reply Unfortunately the staff is SJW the site will probably die soon.
  • samurai_kai_123 reply Solid advice as usual, figured this was as good a spot as any to give back to you Styx. Made a Vidme specifically because of you. If you move, I move as I enjoy your unbiased analysis. Keep up the good work.
  • Normandy reply Hey I'm watching my favorite YouTuber on vidme!
  • MirrorBLK reply 1ƒ τнε¥ ωΩμ£Ð Ωη£¥ Яεα£1ζε τнατ τнε √Ω1ςε§ §нΩμτ1η9 ατ τнεм αЯε α]{1η τΩ ραЯεητ§ §нΩμτ1η9 ατ α ςн1£Ð τΩ ηΩτ Яμη 1ητΩ τнε §τЯεετ
  • wolfalexzemla reply People these days can smell censorship like a blood hound and finally they are starting to not put up for it
  • roundsphere reply In summary, Vid.me, get your shit together.
  • [ – ] sffrog25 reply Vidme is pro-Hillary during election
  • mumhustlar reply So hypocrisy.. Staff can pick whatever they want - just don't suppress content! Why so hard to understand?
  • AmandaAnderson_1 reply Vidme would be nuts not to take this advice.
  • stonedpanda reply bet the ceo of vidme is getting drunk on a binge somewhere celebrating all the new users while failing to understand why they came or why they might leave
  • Golgotha777 reply Thanks styx.
  • Bad-People reply Well I'm seeing people like Computing Forever on trending so it's not a left-wing agenda. Then again much of the trending seems to be on the topic of youtube censorship so maybe it's a business thing. It's not like I payed much attention to what was trending even on youtube anyway.
  • CitizenShane reply Leftists are such intractable pessimistic idealogues. They will literally go broke, just to prove that they were "right:" even when it costs them ending-up in the wrong, at the end of the day. I remember a particular city I grew up in suddenly taking a shift toward leftist politics, and Coca Cola wanted to build a factory. At the time, these leftist politicians had introduced the "H.U.D.-housing" program en-masse, which was basically that state's version of affordable housing. Lots of gang-infested "demographics" started moving in, and if the liberal notion that "poverty causes crime" is actually true, then the least they could do would've been to provide an employment opportunity with such a large firm. The city ended-up sticking the finger at Coca Cola, so they went to the next town over, and built the factory there. The city council got to reassure its voters that indeed, it wasn't doing anything to help the situation, so that they could be sure to get voted-in to "solve" it...more next time around. Liberals...
  • [ – ] Bad-People reply Well they put you in the "Vidme" category whatever that means. Including THIS video. Who cares what's trending anyway. I never looked at what was trending on youtube.
    • SirRidealot parent reply Same here. I don't look at trends or picks. I straight to Politics section or to the channel of those I follow.
  • [ – ] FredJokamotraye reply I promise you this Vidme, you will die if you don't open the category as youtube implements their changes. You will immediately see an influx of users to then have a mass exodus of more users than those who entered. I'm willing to bet you're silicon valley starbucks swilling cosmopollitan types, totally fucking gay, but no matter what you don't want to be out of touch, especially as culture turns around because I guarantee the overwhelming majority of your userbase entirely disagrees with leftist sentiment. Just allow anybody to post content and don't be pussies if a moon man vid shows up on the front page, controversy sells and brings people forward. Shitstorms make you money, and otherwise you'll stagnate into nothing.
    • justwannabee parent reply The only reason I'm even here is Styx and Computing Forever. If anything changes, I go with "my" guys!
  • [ – ] okasion1 reply I wonder if Patron will eventually go away too with the "Tip" option?
  • ErickAlden reply I really hope vidme changes these few things. YouTube is dead and this sight is amazing aside from a few issues like this.
  • GeorgeMcGee reply I want to say that I want to be able to speak my mind on vidme and be treated just like content of all other types, with no bias, and let trend what may. I hope vidme management is reading this. Look, the Alt right won. We are going to keep on winning. So you should be courting us and giving us a place from which to speak. We are the future. We will generate the numbers. We will dictate the narrative. Maybe you haven’t figured this out yet in Commiefornia, but we fucking WON. We are GOING to red pill this country with you or without you. If you don’t like the new America we are becoming, get out. Full Stop. I absolutely LOVE the way vidme will populate more videos from the same creator alongside the playing video. On Yuck tube, when I watch a video, other videos that totally suck populate along the right side of the screen. On vidme, when I watch Styx, other Styx videos are offered at the right side. That’s the right way to do it. Don’t try to pull me away from the guy I chose ...moreto watch. And you do this right, don’t change that. I know you will have a meeting and someone will want to change that, but tell them people don’t want to be distracted from what they chose to consume. That’s like trying to suggest milk with every shot of liquor. I came here for Whiskey, not chocolate milk, bartender. People on the alt-right are already saying vidme is too liberal and they are not a good replacement for Yuck Tube. Prove them wrong and accept the Alt-Right as a force to be reckoned with. What are you afraid of? Being called racist or fostering right-wing extremism? When liberals and democrats make videos they cater to “feels” and reject reason and evidence. So their videos look stupid and are easy meat for us to ridicule. Meanwhile the facts and evidence are firmly on our side. Morality is on our side. God is on our side. The constitution is on our side. On your side? Commies, Muslims, La Raza, the bat shit crazy witches who cast fucking spells on our President and no-nothing Facebook worshiping, knuckle dragging, mouth breathing social justice warriors. Do you want to be popular or do you just want video game players? Is this because Puke-y-pie started out as a game reviewer? That shit’s over. Now listen to Styx or you are on your way down.
  • Mountainghost556 reply It would not surprise me if "they" are not starting to put pressure on this platform to conform to the agenda. Just like all good Mafia types, protection money so to speak must be paid, or well will break your internet knee caps. Just saying,I call it an internet coupe taking over from the old way by force and bringing in the new.
  • sandia_mesa_mlh reply Agreed, Styx. If Vidme continues favoritism BS like this, it's gonna be left in the dust and people will head to a different competitor like LBRY.
  • [ – ] Angry_Computer_Nerd reply @Styxhexenhammer666 I just noticed the google ads being displayed on this site. If you want to know why they're not letting politics trend there's your answer.
    • [ – ] CitizenShane parent reply Are you serious, dude? Where'd you see it?
      • [ – ] Angry_Computer_Nerd parent reply https://vid.me/NjmUL look to the right under the up next play list. The devil is already here. You won't have free speech on any site who's being funded by google.
        • [ – ] justwannabee parent reply (gulp) I have an Amazon ad below the UpNext......what does that say...?
          • Angry_Computer_Nerd parent reply Amazon isn't fully on board the censorship train yet. They've made a few bad moves due to pressure but they haven't caved. Frankly I don't use either on my website. I've been trying to promote alternative ad servers.
  • [ – ] Angry_Computer_Nerd reply If Minds.com gets it video feature rolling then both youtube and vidme may go the way of myspace and twitter.
    • CitizenShane parent reply Yeah - I just registered with Minds this morning. I like it ok - it seems linux-based, for some reason... but it definitely doesn't feel censored, thus far. I should probably head over there and check before I speak too soon.
  • [ – ] Tobberzix reply Look. I get that you're trying to help improve your favored site for posting your political ideas, but the entire site doesn't revolve around you and your followers political ideas. In order for a site like Vidme to grow, it needs diversity, it needs child friendly-ness and it needs a neutral stand for it's first time visitors to stand on. When you enter a site and see a large majority of the videos on said site containing different and opposing views from that which are your own, you might get the wrong impression of the site and just leave. Especially when there's this powerhouse named YouTube that you know inhabits a bunch of stuff that you already like.
    • [ – ] FredJokamotraye parent reply You have no idea how the world works. Diversity™ is about opening users to new experiences instead of the same old shit. Challenging them with views they are unfamiliar with, not coddling them. The politics channels are the biggest seller, and apparently retards like you want communism (which is working great for Venezuela amirite?) which brings everyone down to having virtually no views. This sentiment needs to stop, it's as though you believe the politics channels are stealing views from the gaming channels, instead of the gaming channels being lame and pathetic and not drawing in anywhere near the amount of traffic politics does, especially since the world got slightly more political considering our lives are all at stake with the possibility of wars and the unveiling of "conspiracy theories" to be absolutely fucking provably true. Life isn't fair, but you are egregiously retarded if you think the site will grow by stifling the most popular content openly, because most people ...morewho visit the site hear about this, and then leave and use the devil they know. I bet you're the kind of person that agrees with dictionary.com's new definition of affirmative action.
      • Tobberzix parent reply expand (possible spam) You have no idea how the world works. Diversity™ is about opening users to new experiences instead of the same old shit. • Quineotio reply Hey Vidme, how about you give users the tools they need to curate videos themselves, then completely stay away from you own curation. I want to watch what I want to watch, not what you want me to watch.
  • samiRatun reply What other video media do you use? I can see some of your videos on dailymotion. Is that you?
  • Phobos_Media reply " I can be your best friend" fuckin' BADASS, styx
  • [ – ] FunkyMunky reply I advise you to start uploading directly to Minds.com They host videos so why not?! They have claimed to uphold free speech, that's what this is all about
    • [ – ] Lord_of_Fire parent reply He's not happy with Minds' video upload service. I heard TL;DR complain about it as well. IIRC, you can't upload videos of more than an hour and you can only upload multiple videos like on YT or Vidme.
      • [ – ] FunkyMunky parent reply Better than having the thought police tell you what is cool
        • [ – ] Lord_of_Fire parent reply If Minds wants to rake in the YouTubers who now feel betrayed and want to move elsewhere, they'll need to offer them the stuff they want. Having a reliable video service is what they want, and apparently they're not getting it.
          • [ – ] FunkyMunky parent reply Not yet. It is extremely new in comparison to Youtube. Give them time
            • Phobos_Media parent reply The one thing that I will say is very compelling about minds is that the ceos are openly pro-free speech, and their promotion system is BRILLIANT. It's like a legitimate micro-economy.
            • Lord_of_Fire parent reply Well, maybe this will speed up the process a bit.
  • CheeseRAG reply I'm checking out vid.me now because I've seen a noticeable change in my YouTube browsing based on their recent actions. They'll get my regular traffic like YouTube has if they stop taking the leftist activist approach. Here's hoping they wise up.
  • Winnor reply If not vidme... where can we go?
  • wolfalexzemla reply STYX need to tone it down for now till you get a big enough(huge) following to tell all the liberal tech geeks to piss off. no need to rush, give it some more time
  • wolfalexzemla reply I thought they would not go full libtard until after all the sheepies arrived.
  • FuerchtegottGellert reply SYONERA VON STYX
  • [ – ] KilroyWasHere83 reply Channel Awesome is the Nostalgia critic
  • GailSCollier reply I get your videos through your Facebook page so either platform is fine.
  • [ – ] kikkie2 reply if they at vidme are dodgy now how will they be down the road maybe they can't help themselves..
  • mikeyomomma reply Go stxx go
  • GreenLiberal01 reply Vidme sure is messing up the chance to really capitalize on the Youtube apocalypse.
  • JadeJicama reply CannelAwesome is the Nostalgia Critic, YMS is Your Movie Sucks. YMS is definitely against censorship, and ChannelAwesome likes to pretend it's against censorship, when their work gets 'censored' especially.
  • AmberHart reply Build us a Site styx, something like a youtube but better. "Build it and they shall come"
  • MarkSilverMedia reply Have you considered looking into Bitchute?
  • TheProdigalChamp reply I moved to Vidme last night. I will probably use YouTube to promote Vidme
  • OldAds reply I spend a lot more time on Minds since it is focused on free speech and the owner comes right out and says as much. Their in-house video hosting needs some work, but overall it's quite good. Better still, the place has been rounding out to have decent content in non-political fields of late as well. I'd much rather do stuff there. I'll poke my head in here because there are a few political folk who post here, but that's it. I was curious to see if Vidme could become a viable alternative to YouTube earlier in the year, but from what I've seen of their leadership I'm relegating it to Daily Motion 2.0 at the moment. =\
  • ChrisHvide reply If VidMe really wants to become the next big video platform, they need to step it up. They need to implement a No Censorship (whatsoever) policy, forcing the moderators and administrators at VidMe to stop with this bias mentality or else they'll get fired. They need to stop playing high and mighty. Because they're not. And if one of their bigger content creators leave, it's gonna cause a chain reaction and VidMe will eventually become the next MySpace.
  • FUNKANIC reply Well Vidme just limited my account to 50gb storage limit. I have over 100gb of content, they want me to half my content, not really a youtube competitor anymore if you ask me.
  • Natanahel reply At least they admit they do it, unlike YT.
  • TheGamingCentaur reply Can we JUST have a downvote button on this site already?! Seriously, I feel like it's a lot more beneficial for this site so people and the staff know what to aim for more in the future. :/
  • SC87Returns reply Dear @Duffy @Conner @Warren @McStacky & @Sarah Can you please make Political content Trend Organically. I know you are not a fan of Political staff, but you want Vidme to be a much bigger success, you need to change your idea on people/channel who makes political stuff. I beg you very much to Please, Please, Please, Please, Please listen to the following creator above (Styxhexenhammer666). I LOVE this site and don't want to see it go the way of YouTube.
  • Carlos_Spicywiener reply Can't you link vidme uploads to twitter like you do youtube ?
  • Sonbru reply I'm getting the feeling that Vidme is just reddit with video hosting. Neoliberal partisanism and propaganda is gonna be the mainstay for them in the political area. "We're not biased except when we're biased."
  • Dustieattic reply Vidme needs to listen to this...That is why I came here but will wait or find alternative if they censor or show signs of censorship...90% of us here now are all about Free speech
  • truMalma reply I hope vidme takes this advice, really considering using this platform as the main one that I promote.
  • MrFixIt reply You look so much like Antifa dude. I can't help it
  • DankMcDreamcast reply #VidmeCoudGetMoreMoneyByNotCensoringGorgeSorosCan'tHaveMoneyForever
  • [ – ] larosity reply The video on vidme is unstable compared to YT...it freezes a lot!
  • Didymus reply I guess the same forces that are making youtube do censorship are at work here.
  • StolenMoment reply First attempt of 'upvote' failed. Hacked back in. Vidme is going the way of all things. Very quickly.
