  • blindfire reply I think the most influential thing would be the weakening of the Islamic caliphates. If the caliphates were weaker, they would have submitted to the Mongols, because they would not have wanted to be sandwiched between the Mongol Empire and the Byzantine Empire. Perhaps the library of Baghdad would not have been destroyed. Perhaps there would be no Islamic hegemony over the middle east. With less stability in the Islamic world the arab slavers would not have had as great a reach, limiting the amount of people they could enslave and sell, which probably would have significantly decreased the number of people trafficked during the atlantic slave trade.
