Things Us Crazy Preppers Have In Common
For example: You will find that most of us that are preppers have faith or optimism. We believe there is something to live for and we are willing to fight for it.
Another trait that most of us preppers share is knowing the value of other preppers. We understand that surrounding ourselves with like minded people is important. We can't survive on our own skills alone and being able to network with others creates a larger economy of survivability.
Most preppers don't realize it but they have bartering skills. Right now these skills are manifested by other means such as staying on a budget to acquire supplies and equipment that may be needed in the future. Searching flea markets and garage sale and trading with others. These will be much needed skills when the only economy that exists is a bartering system.
One thing that all preppers do, the very nature that makes us prepare, is that we critically think through situations. We consider different disaster scenarios and then tactically think through how to survive and over come them. That is critical thinking.
Anyone with the mindset to prepare is already developing the mental fitness that will be required in most if not all disaster scenarios. I don't know about you, but I have noticed that most preppers and survivalists that are physically able tend to workout or do whatever they can to stay in shape. I know there are some preppers that have handicaps but they tend to have a good network around them and are very good at being able to work around their handicaps. Bottom line... good physical and mental fitness will be very important when stressful times are on us.
Have you noticed that most preppers seem to have this penchant for fixing and repairing things. We like to build usable stuff from scraps and an idea in our head. We will cobble together something useful from our scrap piles of stuff that most people would throw away. We will keep everything because we know that someday it will have a purpose. Additionally, we take on any project with the attitude that we can get it done. Even if it is not necessarily a prepper type project just because we want to develop our skills. Much like I'm doing when I do projects like home renovations. We are the ultimate handymen.
If you are going to do something you need to know how to do it. That requires knowledge. As preppers, we are always thirsty for more knowledge. Every book, article, or video we can consume makes us smarter... more knowledgeable. We labor under the understanding that when shit hits the fan, we may very well be on our own. We will have to secure our survival from the vast library of our own knowledge. So we always thirst for more information, more bits of know how.
In my case, when I took on the backsplash project, not only did I feel that I could develop some skills that would benefit me later, I reached out and studied all I could about the process. The backsplash itself may not have much to do with survival but the learned skills may someday be directly beneficial in a survival situation. So ya, we are the ultimate drinkers of knowledge.
Will To Live:
The very act of prepping is a direct result of a will to live. We are so determined to survive that prepping is just a natural thing for us. Our nature says we must survive and to that end we embrace the reality of danger. We focus on how to survive that danger and come through it to enjoy the fruits of our labor. The will to live is the one thing that all preppers and survivalists have in common on a grand scale.
