Mega D Back with another video Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a June 12 date for its PlayStation E3 Media Showcase in 2017.
Taking place at one of the world's biggest annual video game expos, the PlayStation E3 Media Showcase is a place to see some of the latest games and a ton of new announcements.
What those announcements might be remain open to guesswork and speculation, as the initial announcement for PlayStation's 2017 E3 event sets a date, a time, and nothing more.
The Los Angeles showcase will start at 6pm PDT local time, which is equivalent to 9pm EDT, then 1am UTC on June 13, 2am in the UK, 3am in Central Europe and South Africa, 5am in Abu Dhabi, 9am in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Beijing, China, 10am in Japan, and 11am in Sydney, Australia.
Sony has a number of PlayStation 4 exclusives previously signposted for 2017 or, more precisely, its second half, including Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and The Last of Us Part II – no surprise if one is pushed to 2018 as both are from the same studio.
Upcoming titles Gran Turismo Sport, Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding, Spider-Man, God of War, Everybody's Golf, Pyre, Dreams, Boundless, Shenmue III, Absolver and Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom may feature in some way.
The PlayStation 4 has also enjoyed preferential partnerships with the franchises that Star Wars: Battlefront II, Call of Duty: WWII and Destiny 2 belong to.
Crucially, PlayStation's presentation will follow a media briefing from Xbox the previous day, at which a significantly more powerful Xbox upgrade, Project Scorpio, is to be fully unveiled ahead of a retail debut later in the year.
PlayStation therefore is expected to counter that reveal, and could do so in a number of ways given that Scorpio is currently expected to retail at $499 or more, given its hardware specifications.
In late April, an industry analyst suggested that a PlayStation 5 would be released in the second half of 2018.
With the PlayStation 4's own upgrade, the PS4 Pro, released not even a year ago in October 2016, it may be too soon to start teasing a PS5, but Sony may see the need to drop a hint at its 2017 E3 Media Showcase. — AFP Relaxnews
