For anyone who went to visit the old YouTube Space London, you're not actually allowed into the rest of Google HQ. But this particular time, we were.
This was probably one of my most favourite days ever. Everything seemed to line up so that I had the best possible day. I thought that stopping at Holborn instead of Covent Garden would make me late. Instead it meant I arrived just in time for Jim Chapman to walk in the front door. We went up in the elevator together and had a quick chat about his work with Childline that day. What a surreal moment!
Then it turned out our tutor for the workshop was stuck in the train mess that day and so Toby (of YouTube Space fame) took us on a tour of Google HQ. Google comprises of several floors of the building at 1-13 St Giles High Street in London.
We went directly up to the 9th floor and had a look over the terrace which was amazing. There were 3-4 cafeterias and all the food and drink was free. We were taken through the gym, library, and lounge areas, and even through the offices (which we weren't allowed to film). There were amazing spaces that allowed the workers to just get away from their desk for a moment but still stay focused and produce good work. It was amazing!
At lunch, our food was free of course and they had really fantastic food, and I pretty much stocked up on diet coke. They actually had cronuts! Insane.
If anyone from Google or YouTube is watching (because why wouldn't you be?) I would very much like a job with you.
