I'm Gaming Jay: Youtube gamer, let's player, retrogaming fan, and determined optimist... Join me in this series while I try out EVERY game in the book 1001 VIDEO GAMES YOU MUST PLAY BEFORE YOU DIE, before I die. The game review for each game will focus on the question of whether you MUST play this game before you die. But to be honest, the game review parts are just for fun, this series is more about the YouTube gamer journey. So let's play those classic retro games we grew up with, have fond memories of, or heard of but never got a chance to try! And with that said, the game review for today is...

Genre(s) Action Real-Time Strategy
Fat Princess is a team-based action game, much in the vein of Team Fortress or Smite. In Fat Princess, two opposing armies of elves struggle to capture back their princesses. Yes, the princesses begin the game locked in the dungeon of the opposing team. The "fat" in Fat Princess comes from the fact that one way to prevent the other team from capturing their princess back is to feed her cake. This invariably leads her to get pretty chunky, and the end is result is that she is harder to carry away from your dungeon.
Fat Princess was a great idea for a game and at its core it is an enjoyable game. You can choose to arm yourself as a warrior, wizard, archer, healer, or worker, and then run around the battlefield killing your enemies, healing your friends, and building up your teams presence on the map. Especially if you can get a handful of friends together, I could see the large scale battles and tactical raids of the enemy dungeons being very fun affairs.
Now for the down side. Fat Princess is most fun with other people and it is a 7-year-old game, it may be hard to find friends to play with, which means you'll have to play against randoms or bots, which significantly decreases the likelihood you will want to play this game for more than an afternoon. And being a 7-year-old game that is priced at $14.99 still, means that it may be tough to get a bunch of friends into this aging beauty.
So what does all of this ultimately mean? Fat Princess is a rather fun and interesting game. If you can get a gang of friends together I expect this would be a fun romp. Failing that, it's a decent casual action game that may be worth a try. It's not a must play these days but hey, it's not bad.
➙ Must You Play It?
Fat Princess feels like a top-down and simplified version of Team Fortress. To have a truly amazing time with this game, I think you need to gather a bunch of friends together and meet up online for some mayhem. If it's just you, this game is a decent casual action game, but not an essential game to play in my opinion.
