And that process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right." -1984 Slavery and the Confederacy shouldn't be glorified, but these figures need to be remembered. I'm more than happy to move them into museums, but to tear down history in a violent mob? That's a recipe for repeating the past. I'm a history nerd, so I'm biased in that way I guess, but history is one of the greatest tools we have, and seeing it torn down and destroyed because it makes people uncomfortable just seems like the beginning of repeating past mistakes again.
  • Master_Chief reply Secular Talk is having some white guilt issues recently, I say just let him air it out..

  • firaro reply I think it's arrogant, to act as though your subjective perception of this as a symbol of slavery is in any way objective. A large portion of people say "no, this doesnt represent slavery to me" and you have the hubris to call them wrong?! Your prescriptivism is not welcome here It is a core piece of me that every time something unique, of any significant value, is permanently destroyed my mind hates it. It feels as though it damages my very soul. This is my madness. And perhaps it is because of it that i absolutely hate those people that would destroy meaninglessly.

  • freerangehobo reply The Vietnam war was one where desperate, unemployed men could find a way to get three squares a day, and a bed. I was aware of this in my day, and I knew some of them. In that sense, they were mercenaries.
  • ClimatePonziLie reply Rewriting History
  • ClimatePonziLie reply Your video is very important as you have captured the original destruction and attack on the statue. I hope you have the entire clip where they were tying the rope around the statue where the man on the ladder was attaching it. YouTube has since removed it from most of those that shared it. YouTube doesn't want anyone too see this as they have removed dozens of creators content that showed this statue being destroyed.
  • ClimatePonziLie reply This is all on purpose, as many of those that stood against tyrannical government rule created these statues and Monuments to ensure that we didn't forget their mistakes and struggles for freedom and equality. These mobs are playing into the desire of evil people by destroying these monuments. With out them, history good or bad, is just a collection of fables with little substance and can easily be dismissed. These Monuments serve to spark the curiosity of future generations and the young of today. Removing artifacts only serves to hasten the fact that too many of us, have little or NO understanding of the past and the importance of many of these events. How does one give warning too future generations by creating a physical reminder a monument a message that can't be imparted completely in just a book. If everything is reduced to dust or forgotten in some basement, in our zeal to censor history are we also destroying the reminder of why we find these images repulsive or inspiring. I...moref you erase the villain then there is NO hero and NOTHING to champion. Those that wish too enslave humanity know all too well that removing and destroying the past also destroys inspiration too stand against future tyrants. Whether you think a monument is Good or bad, when it's gone and is a crime against future generations that have every right too a physical connection too the past. See this for what it is, your destroying the inspiration of future generations, and severing their connection with the past. This is a dangerous trend that if NOT stopped will ensure that destroying connections to the past become routine. These actions will lay heavy on future generations as they are sure too continue this trend of destroying or removing everything that offends them. This is a real danger to future generations as the message in this famous quote. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

  • Setsuna014 reply What a mad world we live in. I wonder how it will end for most if not all of us. We will never leave this planet with these kinds of people and that makes me deeply saddened.
