  • JonTheBemused reply And when you say "call me when you want to build something worthwhile..." They never build, anything, ever. They are parasites, leeches on the legs of humanity. For, were they not, they wouldn't have the time and energy to go on their protests and commit their heinous acts.
  • Rusty_Shakleford reply Regarding Confederate monuments, I fall towards the argument of they were enemy combatants of the United States therefore should not be honored in such a way. We wouldn't erect statues to Hirohito commemorating his military prowess, and I don't think we should have done the same for Lee, et al. Having said that, taking the strategy of removal to it's logical conclusion of modern day morality tests, as you have done, only leads to monuments to people from the previous 50 years or so. We would be constantly reevaluating people and deciding they weren't pure enough and must be forgotten. Like you said, there's no pleasing these people. Essentially, I don't like that they exist, but I sure as hell won't be campaigning for their destruction.
  • JonTheBemused reply If there are no statues to anyone who owned slaves, then you have to destroy all statues from antiquity. Sorry, but that isn't an argument, IMO. I prefer the argument I have heard from others, that you cannot judge people from the past by today's moral values. Especially as those espousing the modern morality are often exhibiting just as much racism, only in a different direction.
  • RobertTLongway reply "We need to figure out how to effectively ignore these people" - I actually agree and that would just piss them off more so it's a win-win
  • LordKvasir reply Welcome to 1984, people.
