HEMA, Martial Arts & Fencing Competition Rules
October 10 2017
An overview of HEMA (or any weapons-based martial arts) rules, what they are for and what they do not 'simulate'. I see a lot of confusion in YouTube comments from people watching martial arts sparring or competitions, it seems because what many people expect to see in a simulation of a real fight, which of course without real combat conditions, such as sharp weapons, a sparring match or competition can never really closely replicate. Therefore we have to use rules that test certain skills which are important in armed combat.
