Last year around about April 7th my cat Frank was bitten by either a brown or a tiger snake. I got up to find him sitting outside the front door waiting for me, when he saw me, he crawled into my lap and curled up.
When I went to get up, he dug his claws into my legs so I couldn't get him out of my lap or a few minutes I thought he was just being overly dramatic and affectionate as he is prone to do.
When I finally got him out of my lap he whined and tried to jump back into it but flopped on his side, trying to drag himself up into my lap. At this point I realised something was wrong and panicked.
I called the vet and they told me to get him there ASAP which I did.
They rushed him into the back and examined him, they told me that it looked like a snake bite and that he would be lucky to survive the night but they would hold him while they checked the blood samples.
It came back positive and they gave me an ultimatum, we can administer the antivenin or you can come back and pick him up. Either way you're already a few hundred dollars deep.
Once I was offered a payment plan, I said yes to the antivenin and just over a year later I am so glad I did. This cat has shown me more affection, trust and understanding than other other pet I've had before him.
What honestly tears me apart is that instead of trying to find a dark quiet place to die that he came looking for me and once he found me, he refused to let me go... He wanted to die with me by his side.
I'm so glad that 1 year on he's still with me and being his overly dramatic and affectionate self and I hope to spend many more years with his company.
