It's been one year since the alleged suicide of Pratyusha Banerjee. Her parents are still grieving. Her friends have grown more angry. A perpetrator still walks free. There has been no justice for Pratyusha’s family and friends.
Now, a short film directed by Kamya Punjabi starring Pratyusha Banerjee has been held up in the courts and Punjabi is facing jail time for releasing her film despite a court ruling.
The story which revolves around Pratyusha's character battling depression, due to a failed relationship, has an uncanny resemblance to what the actress was going through in her real life as well. Boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh was shocked to hear that a film was being released and he felt that it might prove detrimental since the case is still being fought in court.
Rahul Raj Singh has accused Punjabi of gaining cheap publicity by releasing the film on the anniversary of Pratyusha's death to earn public sympathy.
Singh claimed, in his application to the court, that the film was an attempt to show him in poor light and would prejudice the case against him.
Is he kidding?
The only person who came to Singh's defense last April was his father. It took a year for his sister, Sahila Chadha, to emerge at Punjabi's film premier to protest the film.
Think about this...
a filmmaker might go to jail for telling a truth while a perpetrator walks free by lying.
Hey Rahul, I don't think you're gonna like this film either.
