Some basic information:
- You automatically get the quest prompting you to listen to the Nuka-World radio signal and head to the transit station at level 30, but you can go at any time by heading there yourself. The station is located on the western edge of the map, southwest of Sunshine Tidings Co-op. I'd say the level 30 recommendation isn't a bad guideline, though.
- There's only one settlement in Nuka-World (the Red Rocket east of the bottling plant), and you can't claim it until you've reactivated Nuka-World's main power plant, at which point you're done with the DLC's main quest line. In other words: if you're playing on Survival and have been using settlements as your lifeline, get used to working without them, and prepare accordingly before going in.
Thankfully, there's no shortage of workstations or good beds in Nuka-Town, so you've got that covered. In fact, there's a conveniently-placed cooking station and good bed next to each other near the northern entrance to Nuka-Town.
There's plenty of animals in Nuka-World to kill for food (clearing out Dry Rock Gulch alone will net you a ridiculous amount of meat if you have the Wasteland Survival magazine that increases meat from kills), and Nuka-Town has a bar plus a couple of general traders whom you can buy food from.
Finally, there's shitloads upon shitloads of bottles in Nuka World, so you just need to find a source of clean water (assuming you don't simply have a companion lug around a bunch of Purified Water). The easiest-to-access source of Purified Water would be Evan's House to the south of Nuka-Town (location shown near the end of the video), which has a water pump and doesn't require any fighting or anything to get to. There's also a sink in the Vault in Galaxy Zone that provides clean water, once you clear a path to it.
