There are a few knife techniques and cooking tips I could give you that would make your prep and cooking time less. I'm sure your mom is a wonderful cook. There is one Russian dish in the MRE's that is considered very delicious but I don't know what it's called. It looks like beef stew with grits or barley.

The small what throws me off. This is the only way I can eat it. It does not have the smell. But beef works in this way just the same...
