The latest version of GIMP as of this time is 2.8. However, I find it to be a bit cumbersome to use so I still prefer version 2.6 and 2.7. Older versions of GIMP are still available, 2.6 is still downloadable here:
I've been meaning to do something like this for a long time - a tutorial on GIMP that covers the software itself because as with all drawing applications, the drawing part comes from you, the Artist.
For those of you who might be putting off trying animation because your software "sucks", GIMP is free to download and use. With this video showing you how, theres no excuse for you to put off trying to create an animation anymore =p GIMP is one of the main drawing applications which I use as is seen on the vast majority of my videos.
Here, I cover some of the basics of GIMP for anyone who would be unfamiliar with it or just started out trying to use it. The tutirial is primarily Animation focused, so theres a few tips on the basic brush dynamics, creating a sequence of layers, using Opacity for Onion Skin and finally, exporting an animated GIF.
In future, I'd like to do more tutorials on GIMP and other stuff like Flash and After Effects where rather than creating short GIFs, actual videos are made instead as well as a Traditional Animation video too.
I am open to suggestions on topics to cover, but the main topics I want will be the more technical ones, where its to do with the software and not "How to draw [insert species of animal]" type tutorials.
I'm drawing on GIMP 2.6.10.
