  • [ – ] theoldsparrow reply He could be a brother to my cat Bob the way he looks. Bob is getting up there but he's still spry and nimble. I'm going to cry buckets when he finally does go. Like you said they are family and play an important part in our lives even if the conversation is a bit one sided. I'm sorry for you and your sister's loss. May the grieving process be short but meaningful.
    • JessicaMartwin parent reply Thank you so much for your kind words. It really means a lot. I'd say that my sister and I get too attached but I think it's normal. When you love something it is really hard to let go.
  • [ – ] Flying_Purple_Pizzas reply I am saddened by the loss of your family member. My mother had two cats who lived long lives and died in her arms at the veterinarian place after having severe illness. Each death was a blow to her and myself. And recently my mother died as well. I have a strong belief in the continued journey, but that doesn't mean separation isn't painful in the meantime. I think we connect with our pets at levels beyond our everyday awareness, that we communicate constantly with them as though they are intelligent beings of light just like us, which they are. They are able to give comfort to us throughout the daily struggles of our lives even though we don't fully understand how that all works. It's okay to feel sadness at the loss of a friend and family member. I believe you are right about time being the healer of such pain. Sadness is a normal part of the life process. It comes and it goes. We say goodbye to one friend and hello to another. And one day we all meet again in another place. That is ...moremy current understanding. Thank you, again, for sharing your personal story with us.
    • JessicaMartwin parent reply You are really too nice. I always look forward to reading your comments. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me. Losing a pet is really hard. Especially when they have been huge part of my life. I know the sadness will pass but it is just so hard to deal with right now. Thanks again for your kind words :)
  • [ – ] JustABloke reply I can't say I felt sad for another family members pet, my own yes. When we lost both of our rats within days of each other, it was a very sad household. Bye Dexter. You are going to gain and lose friends as you journey through life. I so miss most of them and I know I will never see them again. Cherish each moment.
    • JessicaMartwin parent reply Thank you for the kind words. I just feel really lucky to have known Dexter. It is so hard to lose an animal that had been a part of the family for so long.

      • [ – ] ExcalibursZone parent reply My mom recently lost our cat of 17 years...? Wow, she was an old cat. She didn't bother to tell me the cat passed away and it was pretty upsetting. Safe travels!
  • dxnvld reply :( I felt the same way when I lost my 10yo cat last year. He was my best friend. Dexter seemed like he had a wonderful life, filled with lots of love. Hope you feel better
