Aquarium water can go yellow if there is too much dissolved organics compounds in your aquarium water. The dissolved organic compounds come from anything alive in your aquarium and also from the food the fish eat. Another reason for yellow aquarium water is tannins released from bog wood and mopani wood. These tannins do not harm the fish but make the water go yellow.
