As an adult thumbsucker, Harvey Miller feels like his favorite habit is largely misunderstood. For him and others like him, thumbsucking is a harmless way to fill a void. And who can argue with that?
Q&A with Harvey Miller:
1. You say you don't suck your thumb in public. Have you ever tried it in the past? What kind of response did you get?
- Actually, I do (I’m referring solely to my adult life), mostly in my vehicle but if during other times (in the train or on an aircraft), I make sure no one else can see, or if I’m asleep (something I do on an airplane), I cover it with a pillow that I bring along during the flight. About 20 years ago, I was more bold about it and had indulged in public (on the street, in stores).
I recall once while driving, a car was passing me on my left hand and, after quickly looking over, our eyes met. She was sucking her thumb also! I’ll never forget the look on her face!
