  • methhai reply IISER K is full of bustards .I have been there so I know all of these fucking ppl . having a good research records with a hi-fi research guide does not let someone to stand against humanity in his professional life . . also that wont last for the rest of his lifetime if he fails to produce good papers for own as a researcher. . . .
  • jackass reply What a shame, Indian Academics has lost all it's credibility : ================================================= Dear All We, Dean of Faculty Affairs and Dean of Student affairs have received the condemnation mail regarding the recent video uploading from the students Gymkhana committee. We are forwarding this mail to the IISER-K family. Regards. Jayasri Das Sarma Prasant K Panigrahi. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Reg condemnation of video incident Date: Thu, 30 Oct 2014 21:20:30 +0530 From: Gymkhana Committee <gymkhana@iiserkol.ac.in> To: Dean of Faculty Affairs <dofa@iiserkol.ac.in> Cc: Dean of Student Affairs <dosa@iiserkol.ac.in> Dear All, We have condemned the act of uploading of the video, regarding the events that took place on the night of the protest against the old canteen vendor, from the very beginning and still do. We have not officially communicated this via email to anyone till now because to a miscommunication, due to which we thought that the meet...moreing held regarding the condemnation of the video on 26 August, 2014, was an official condemnation of the video and an apology to the director from the side of all the students (it was noticed by all that Director Sir was absent, but even upon enquiry by us, no reason was given for his absence). Now, we would like to officially state that we (as well all the students) are unconditionally apologetic for all the inconvenience, stress and mental trauma that our respected Director has gone through, due to this incident and we will do our best to make sure that such acts don't repeat in the future. Thanking you, Regards, -- Gymkhana Committee IISER Kolkata
  • Tics reply I agree. This case is even very strong. such a corrupt director should resign. Guys lets raise our voice against all the corruptions at IISER Kolkata. Plan demonstration even in Delhi. Post this in youtube and facebook.
  • another_faculty reply Folks please bring this up on all posts you see on the Jadavpur case, this is no different from all that is going one, in fact it is worse in many ways
  • Boff reply why so?? is this to support this corrupt professor. this piece of shit deserves serious thrashing for all the wrong doings.
  • EYEBEE reply Well, Lets assume that the case is closed now and let us not discuss anything about this matter hereafter.
  • RNM_rat reply I think the oppressive actions that are now being taken to prevent the truth from coming out should be brought to court. An RTI is going to be filed and it will ask for the names of those that are trying to oppress the matter, it will also ask about mess billing and other accountability issues. And once things get on an RTI, we are free to put that up in the public domain again
  • RNM_rat reply Don't know if anyone noticed something striking. RNM (through his various aliases ie cnr, apscpys etc) is repeatedly telling people to complain to CVC, and saying that doing so would let him lose his salary/ pension. Why is he so bold and fearless about losing his pension? is he taking kickbacks from the mess contractors that he does not care about his government salary anymore?
  • jackass reply There were more developments on this matter. There was an emergwncy meeting of Deans and HOD last Saturday. DOFA wanted to take action againsts three facultieswho where present in the video. Three HOD's produced documents in the name of majority of thier departments, with out even consulting the thier department member! They are also out to find the students who have uploaded the video and take action againts them. DOFA also called a faculty meeting to get thier support. However, it did not work. He made fool of himself infront of all. DOFA and Three HOD's are all the way out to get in RNM good books. They don't even care about IISER and working conditions out there. Distroy every thing for personal benifit in the name saving institute.
  • toka reply Scientific discoveries in India?? forget it guys, its a country of corrupt professors and an equally corrupt system. But be proud of that. because mera bharat mahan..100 me se 99 baiman. Wait for another indian origin to get nobel prize so that we can shine in the reflected glory. Corrupt practices in IISER Kolkata, NIBMG, Calcutta University, Jadavpur university are nothing new. But who cares in a chalta hai country.
  • Wolverine reply Yesterday, in a meeting, our DOSA and DOFA made the students apologige for uploading the above video through sentimentalizing about tarnishing of the image of the institute!, in ABSENCE of the director. So making an incidence of abuse by the highest authority public is an offence now? Thus it mean we should condemn all the reports of such acts within a family/office/organization on the basis of image-saving? Sounds overwhelmingly similar to people in Khap panchayats!. & what about the right to information. I agree, this is the not the best way, but definitely the only way out. Do anyone seriously think that the inside machinery of an institute is democratic? How can it be, when an autocratic post like Director is there? I totally agree this is the only way the system can exist. But this also takes away the possibility of any fairness in an event where the director is the guilty party. Who will take action, if needed, against the highest authority within the defined domain? The only way...more out to have proofs like the above video, and make them public anonymously, as government complaining never stay anonymous [I myself wouldn't have been posting here if it hadn't been anonymous and if not in an independent website (IP tracing and all)]. This gets even more severe when someone from the students is the complaining party. The moment his/her name gets to the faulty authority, there are zillions of ways he/she can get penalize for that, without any repurcation. The reverse will never happen. The phrase 'higher authority' means that. I still hope one could do without uploading the video, but that was the only way out. I support the uploader whole-heartedly, and pledge him/her not to take the video down. & also, urge the rest of the student community of IISER K that please don't get emotionally blackmailed any more, as you are the least powerful (officially) and exploited party all along.
  • Wolverine reply s1240155 Comparing RNM to parents and real teachers? I expected such mislead reactions right from the begining. The later shout at you when needed and for your own good, whereas the prior does it all the time, no matter what. He talks to us in an arrogant, dominating tone, with English flawd in multiple levels. So just get this point cleare: shouting on students is not a right of a real teacher, but his optional activity for the benifit of education as a whole. What happened above is purely a frustrated act of arrogant anger.
  • rvc reply Nepotism and corruptions are mantra for indian research and teaching heads
  • rvc reply He is not alone, there are many directors, professors in Indian institutions who are corrupt. They just exist because of their connections and not because of their scientific research and discoveries. Check online the performance of Indian professors in Indian institutions in the last 5 years. What they have discovered, what they published from their own lab? You will understand their incompetence. Thats why China is far ahead of India in science and thats why indian science is of so poor standard. Till this generation of old, egoistic, corrupt group of scientists are gone there is no hope. Mark my words.
  • ghanta_badlega reply Well, sometimes it is trick to pacify a crowd, make an example of a weakling and then everybody will fall in line. Only mistake RNM did not choose the weakling properly. He made an error in judgement and the move backfired..
  • s1240155 reply guys take it easy..........what everyone wanna say...if your parents shout on you so what you will gonna do make a video and make t viral on the net.........the environment was heated at that time so everyone was showing respectively their negative behavior it happens sometime...let it go smoothly...ya if there is something wrong deep inside the institute please oppose by some other way....this is not a sign of good civilized society....
  • RNM_rat reply This guy iiser_k_student is obviously not a real the student but RNM or his family members trying to defend him. So is "apscpys" another alias of RNM, he thinks he is smart, ha!! And this rascal keeps harping on the point: "Respect a person for good deed's he does rather than punishing him for his bad deeds" is that how justice really works? every criminal does something good, do they get judged for saving the kitten or for raping the girl? but RNM is a criminal and he will stay a criminal. When RNM molested the girl in IITK, he used to cry and say "what will happen to me". Yes literally cry, wail, people. But then what happened? When he knew he is back in control, and nothing big will happen, he immediately started abusing the very people who stood by him, returned to his attitude and carried on with his behavior. Coming back to this thread, the students have been so severely threatened that some of them are not going to comment but they are smart enough to judge. These students also ...moreknow, it is hard to change the system by staying within the system. Tomorrow RNM will once again molest another girl and then ask "judge me for my good deeds only". What nonsense. Impeach RNM. He probably is telling his wife now, look I am so smart, pehle maine bharkaya uske baad manine apne baare me acche likha, arey I know skills. RNM knows nothing, he could not manage a lab, how can he manage an institute. Students, this man has to go, he has to be brought to justice. It is very hard to change the system by staying within it as a student. The student who stands up will be crushed, just as we are seeing here, RNM posting threats like "big brother is watching etc". Why students, he is not even sparing the faculty who did the right thing. And how stupid are these comments: that if his bad deeds are talked about then " I can assure you that he will never to good in his future life". What garbage logic? if the he does not do his job the govt has to fire him. Anyhow, why do you think the mess was in such a condition? Obviously RNM was in collusion with the vendor, he used to order computer parts to his lab from grant money and take them home, now that there is so much money he definitely has his eyes on them. I mean it is natural, RNM has to leave some assets behind for his son who is failing class X exams and is not doing much
  • iiser_k_student reply your acts may change a good person. what we need now is infrastructure of IISER Kolkata.................................................He is doing that part very well.................................................................If he moves out, IISER Kolkata is again going to get a another person as director who will take another one year to understand the system. He may be better than him, bt the chances of being corrupt is more. Please let the work of IISER Kolkata not be hampered and close this down.
  • iiser_k_student reply Common guys...... Time to let it go. Think of situation where a person is making his hard effort to make the infrastructure of the Institute and he gets paid like this because of his mistake. I agree that he should have not behaved the way he did but look at the other aspect. He did agree to change the system of IISER canteen. He is the one who is making so much efforts to make our institute a better place like other IIT's and IISER's. you cant catch hold of people who did corruption in last 8-9 years at IISER Kolkata, but really he is trying hard that these type of corruption not happen when he is director of IISER Kolkata. Learn ...when to stop. If a person's image is hurt like this irrespective of good's he had done. I can assure you that he will never to good in his future life. Respect a person for good deed's he does rather than punishing him for his bad deeds...
  • student reply full video at >> bit.ly/VHzL3h
  • vidme_out reply I meant: We should NOT confuse one aspect with another.
  • vidme_out reply @I-Hate-stupid @that_girls_ghost @Manabendra_Ray Firstly shouting annoys me. Whatever the reason, whoever the person. Secondly, I have never been to IISER-K or IIT-K myself. Whatever I am saying is based on this page alone. I am not from your discipline of science, and I did not know about this person before. If he was threatening the girl (I could not understand what's being said in the chaos) why don't you go to police, if it seems like a criminal act? What is the point of spewing fire on a webpage? What change happens to your IISER-K education and infrastructure if he apologizes? Will you accept his apology? Does it serve any real good if you accept it? I don't think so. He is not a child that he will learn a lesson. If he is a dishonorable human being he will remain so, and keep affecting the people around him; unless he leaves or is compelled to do so. By shouting less is not showing respect to him. It is showing respect to the gravity of the situation and letting people speak. ...moreIt also means showing respect to your own self. By politics, I did not mean serious party-politics. I meant this game of harping on his past and appealing to sentiments: alleged (because clearly he was not convicted in a court of law, even if the allegations are true. It is your failure that you did not disclose them to the police when you knew and he got scot-free. That is the real SHAME!) repeated bad conduct and looking up other attributes that happened in IIT-K. He is not a public figure like a PM that his personal past should matter so much, even if it is criminal. You should stick to the current issue. At least add the transcript of the conversation. I don't have the patience to decipher this mess. I am sure there are many people like me who would like to know what is being said, but don't want to hear a shouting match. Then one former student stands up like an obedient old boy and explains his academic virtues. I understand sir, he must have had a positive impact on your career. He might even be the Einstein of his area but that does not matter. But, here he is an administrator, and therefore his academic attainments are simply irrelevant. Even Sachin failed as a captain; and it did not save him for long that he was a great batsman. We should confuse one aspect with another. My comments are merely an opinion of an outsider. I commented only because I felt disturbed by this. Is there no way to change things for the better?
  • Vertigo reply All those who are supporting RNM please give it sometime, get your act together and open your eyes, straighten and strengthen your spine and look up to the fact that this is not the first time that he is in deep shit! it had been quite a few times, more than many respected academics that I have come accross. Its time that either he should learn from his mistakes or give way to others to do justice to education. I feel he had been given a chance of doing good far too long. And whoever has spoken about the 'respect for alma-mater' I have to say try respecting good things in your alma-mater and change the bad stuff that need not exist in that institution!
  • VIVEKANANDA reply India got independence a long ago, but Indians are not independent due to people like rnm.. Students, Arise Awake and stop not till the goal is reached.
  • apscpys reply Please donot file any complaints to Chief Vigilance Officer, Govt of India at https://portal.cvc.gov.in/portal/index.jsp . Please do not do so. The director can loose/delay all his retirement benefits and pension. They can probe his family members bank accounts. Please donot place any complaints there please.
  • that_girls_ghost reply how is hamidad? why are some people so eager to contain issues within the institute? 1. How is Hamidad? i saw his pictures with someone, beautiful poses, they are still on IITK lan, Oh the issue was contained in to the institute in Bhopal thank god. 2. then that scandal that got shut up in IITK without probe, how convenient, let us commit crimes and let the issues stay where they are
  • that_girls_ghost reply Ooh nice someone is here to threaten us (1) When reporters report rape are they shaming India? stop stupid logic. The real shame is the man who threatensed the girl. He should be removed with immediate effect. Start a twitter hashtag (2) respect is earned, its not anyone's property. A man goes about molesting people, abusing people and then calls for respect. "Chorer maaer gola boro". These young people should not be taught to respect an undeserving candidate. Anyone with connections can sit in that chair, people respects the chair, not the person (3) How many papers did @shutup publish of meaningful research? without trying to copy Laurence Que/ William Tollmann's work? In IITK someone said "I hate adminstration, I want to do science, I will never be a director" but then he came here as soon as he got chance. what will happen to science now? why all that fake drama? (4) If the director does not want to show up at 5 am then do it some other time/ leave the job. This person could not ha...morendle his lab, how did he get placed at IISER-K is a wonder. Please do not compare the RNM with someone from the family of these kids, you are not that person, we would hate to have a molester in the family. Then it is asked to judge someone by their profession and not their character? what nonsense? is that how the judge absolves a murderer? If you are a big man i release you, if you are poor, you are doomed. India gained indipendence in 1947, this is a democracy don't forget that 6. VERY IMPORTANT, IP address can be tracked sure, but the only people with the IP address is vid.me, headquartered in the US. If IPs do come out, we will also see how many of these comments came from RNM's office/ residence and obviously there will be a national probe in some allegations that are tru but have so far been suppressed. Admit the mistake, apologize first!!
  • I-Hate-stupid reply @vidme_out I appreciate your effort, a lot of useful points, but why would you say there is a political overtone? here a person who is a repeat offender is seen doing something wrong again and people are naturally mad. Where is there politics? A young faculty stood up for the student. Is he wrong? Why is this culture of victimizing the good? When rapes, murders happen on street, the pedestrians just walk their way and we blame the society, the mindset. And we can now clearly see why, just like here these good samaritans would be blamed, while the actual criminal, a more powerful man, will walk unscathed. This is wrong, absolutely pathetic mindset. The director has to apologize, say sorry. He has to be transparent as to what is happening, he cannot take on aliases and say "dariwala chasmewala" this does not suit his chair. I know, @goreen-staycool is probably an RNM alias also. Second, this is not even a class that RNM is taking, this is a discussion, he is here to answer to the students...more, not to boss over them. RNM has to apologize publicly. and he has to treat his subordinates well. He cannot tell his graduate students to "go die", or all that he tells them. Everyone is a human being, what kind of culture is this that supports such a man? Its very hurtful, this person should value human beings. He lectures big words, but he has absolutely zero planning. Except for licking foot, he has zero inter-personal skill. AT conferences he just hijacks the US scientists he wants to butter and then at home he treats people like garbage. He is old but he has to change, if he wants to retire in dignity. He thinks he is a hero by insulting people, it is wrong, real men respect men and more than anything else they respect women. bye
  • vidme_out reply I am baffled at many things here. I would like to point out a few things and make some suggestions in the non-increasing order of importance. 1. The main issue when this happened was about bad canteen food. Use the social media more effectively. Click photos of what was found in the canteen as mentioned above, post them on a twitter account or whatever, and let them go viral so that the people concerned (Director, or whoever) get ashamed of the dire situation. Tweet these photos to the PM, CM, and eminent politicians, and I am sure some of them will take this up and focus on it. Because this will help them in their career, not because they are concerned with IISER-K. But, this will help to make an impact and spread the word. Such a long video does not catch anyone's fancy, and come on it does not actually show the state of your food and canteen facilities. This is a stupid video of some unruly people! Where is the food? 2. Raising one's voice, shouting at someone, losing temper... Ple...morease! This is ugly and impolite. On all sides. Are you politicians? Is this a state assembly or Lok Sabha? This does not look good on the Director of a good institute, less so for anyone who is speaking on an important issue. No one cares about their academic standing; it is irrelevant. It was also not good on the part of the student to react like that. She should have remained calm, composed and apologize immediately, even if she was not at fault. What would have happened then? The Director would have been forced to keep talking about the problem. If he still kept shouting at her, without any reaction on her part, he would look like a fool. It would have kept the focus both on the issue and the bad temper of the Director. Also, it was not good for the other professors to come in and try to diffuse the situation. Brownie points, shouting matches, taking sides, stupid claps, chaos. Almost like politics, isn't it? 3. Why are other issues raised? It clouds the main problem. It is possible that he has had some controversial past, you have the right of speech to state what you have to say. But, is it useful by stating here things that you cannot prove here? This makes things murky! Who do I believe? Are the people who are supporting his cause or the people denouncing him? Can you not write a separate anon blog about your experiences about him? Let us not mix the character of a person with his capabilities as an academic administrator. 4. In these times, educated people need not have noble motives all the time. So, please do not plead about his brutally honest personality that helped build your careers, or abused you so bad that you let him perpetuate harassment at your workplace. So, let us not go into the idealistic alley that when a respected professor speaks, you must listen. Here, politeness is not what is discussed. It is well known that IISER-K has bad infrastructure. Highlight that! What is the point of talking about the director's personal character? Why talk about the issues with a political overtone?
  • GoGreen-StayCool reply Enough is enough. Please stop and I don't want to see any post regarding this matter. I think that "Darhiwala-chasmewala" faculty (faculty with beard and specs) played a crucial role in this incident and he should be fired w.e.f. from the day of incident. just misleading students and trying to create CPM/TMC culture in side IISER K. Probably this is the reason why Bengal couldn't produce Scientists like Bose, Saha, PC Roy, C.V. Raman anymore. Time has come to improve yourself and move forward.
  • I-Hate-stupid reply why are you so duty bound to save the director? are you his tissue paper? you are defending a corrupt person and teaching me piety? haha. please do not teach me respect for my country, Unfortunately people like you bring down Indian science and make it popular for corruption and people like me, outside India have to keep defending my motherland's repuation by constantly arguing that no India is a great country, these thieves are just exception. Please leave whatever you are doing and pray for salvation. When I call you out, I am insulting the virus that you are, not my motherland. Jai Hind and Satyamev Jayate
  • Requesting_All reply Guys! Please open your eyes. I don't know how many of you are aware of the situation. And I am sure more than at least 90% people who are so much active in spending their time for this don't know the real situation. It's easy to gossip than resolve an issue. I feel pity on IISER Kolkata faculty members who are instigating the students against the Director who is struggling hard to make the system better. This incident happened at 4 am in the night. Before this video was taken, already more than hour discussion was over. I am sorry to say 'I-Hate-Stupid' that you are really a stupid who has lot many misunderstandings regarding INDIANs. Please learn to respect yourself and your Country.
  • I-Hate-stupid reply Call me coward, I call you corrupt and incapable, stuck in India, buttering american scientists, plagiarizing their work and stealing govt money. you made the system a sewer
  • Requesting_All reply I HATE "I-Hate-Stupid".....I think you are really Stupid....I am Sure you were not there when it happened...Can't you see the intensity of argument that the student started for no reasons...its just because she was asked to listen and then react....People apply your mind....Dear "I-Hate-Stupid" come back to India, face the situation and then comment...Coward!.
  • bokwass reply Matter should be closed now. Enough. Get back to work. As I said this is very common in Indian institutes. I have seen lot of these. You guys are just misusing the electronic media.
  • another_faculty reply students say hello to you r director once again, he now posts as Wolverine, geeze!! this guy must be a fan of DC comics, last time he was supermen. The assistant prof did the right job, you cannot keep on molesting people, I copied this page so no use deleting Dr Mukherjee. And how dare you say "But what is this, that girl in the front row is not listening to what I say, how there she? I will just %^*&(*()*))(_))(_O)__............" what do you think about girls? you think they are your property? students, this guy is so brazenly speaking shit on women.
  • I-Hate-stupid reply "This happens in every Institute" writes @requesting all. You mean in India it happens, because such a behavior would not be tolerated in USA or any other decent country. In USA, students sleep in class, they even go "booo" if you say something unpopular. The director is not the Emperor of India, he is a public servant, he should behave like one. Second if someone puts a camera on you sure you too would be caught doing things that you do not want people to see. But that might be in private. If you do things in public that you do not want people to see, then the problem is with you. And why do you want people to forget the matter? does the director pay you or you are a similar person who feels threatened by publicity received by their wrong doings. People like you should just go to hell, have some decency, all these old laggards just ruining the mentality of the nation.
  • BOSCG reply I don't know who wrote that story about Dr. Haldar's lab. Being a member of Dr. Haldar's group I can say whatever was written about prof. RNM in that comment is false & our lab has no connection with that.
  • Requesting_All reply This way we can catch anybody in Video.....Big-Brother is watching you too....Anyone of you can be caught like this...if anybody like this guy (who made this video) plays this prank with you...PLEASE STOP THIS....I feel like laughing @ all of you who are stretching this matter...
  • Requesting_All reply I think the culprit is the person who made this Video....Unnecessarily stretching the issue....This happens in every Institute...Guys please do not spend your time judging the incident.....Let it go...
  • apscpys reply Can someone post the entire talk?.
  • Wolverine reply Thank you all for such lively display of concern. However, as much have been discussed, I would like to put forward a conspiracy theory: In terms of infrastructure, IISER K was running behind all other IISERs (It is still now), even after being one of the first two. The initial 500 Cr was getting utilized in all shorts of non or semi-existant facilities (read sipped-in to the pockets of various leaders), under careful effort of the one-&-only SDG. In 2010, DIDI came into power, and the leftist lobby sucking the IISER K fund, just dissappeared (dismentled). Obviously, SDG got 'relocated'. This was the end of the grand plan that started off with dragging the IISER, first from Orissa, and then from main Kolkata area, to a dump called Mohanpur+Haringhata (For the non-initiated, please come here and spend a month & then talk. I have done it for more than 5 years) . At this point, grabbing the opportunity, numerous complaints & RTIs were filed. To ease that heavy pressure, the CNR+BOSSES t...moreried to get a new director who'll finish the job ASAP. But as it is already in a dump of dumps, for almost a year, no one wanted to become the IISER K director (just think, people letting go off the directorship of an MHRD institute). Prof. S Dasgupta was kind enough to carry out the interim burden, & actually we were at peace, following the SDG-era. Then RNM became the director, with obvious sacrifice of leaving his 'motherland' IIT K (may be as it just replaced the 'T' with the 'SER'). His task: finish the campus real fast. His promised reward: feel free to imagine. The directive: NOTGHING else matters!!! & really, since he arrived, nothing else (read Education And Research) mattered. I can give a comprehensive list on that, that I composed a year back or so, but subject it to on-demand basis, looking at the scale of discussion going on. & for the campus, being in WB and contracted to the CPWD (still!), it is still not even half complete. The budget is now 650 Cr (utterd by RNM himself in the begining part of the complete lecture, highlighted above). Again I refrain to elaborate for similar reason. So, after 2 years, RNM is getting under more pressure. Then the Modi Sarkar turned the knob further as MHRD made IISER directors present their present status. So now, the plan is simple: Siphon funds from ALL other facilities (read research funding, ARF, contingency, computers and yes, food too) and put it into construction (Thankfully, salaries and fellowships weren't stopped, as that could meant a Bolshevik revolution!). Obviously, people will get more and more agitated. Though I feel the IISER K atudent fraternity is too nice for its own good, the pressure was strong enough so that they finally errupted on that night in the hostel. Now what RNM thinks of it: "I came here to complete the new campus. As I have always done in my life, I'll do it with an iron hand. Everybody must stand upto me, as I haven't burnt my hair under the sun to get white. I'll show everyone that I can do what others cannot. And if these paltry students think they can hamper my ambition by asking for the facilities, I'll shout them off! Oh! they have gheraoed the dean and all, is it? It's 3:30 am, but no matter. I'll just go and shut them off. They can't act 'jyada smart' in front of me. Oh! it's 4:30 now! and some 500 of them still are there, despite of my rullings. Let me handle it a bit carefully, though I am so pissed off at them. Let me speak calmly now, then I'll take care of this. But what is this, that girl in the front row is not listening to what I say, how there she? I will just %^*&(*()*))(_))(_O)__............ Oh! that's a grave mistake I made in front of camera. Even my wife had to point that out. Lemme come down..... What! How come this Asst. Prof. can say that I was thretening her? I can do whatever I want. This damn %^^&**(()%%#............." Now please scroll up again and go through the posts by IISER students and Ex-IISERians. I hope the pieces will add up :)
  • apscpys reply Please send the clipping to NDTV and IndiaToday.
  • apscpys reply Everyone, please give a big clap to NEO for sharing the link to the article. Looks like IISER is very lucky to have a world class biologist who is also a social activist...India needs more faculties like Dr.Ray, who cannot withstand injustice anytime, anywhere to anyone in ANY CAPACITY.
  • somebody123 reply Stunned to see the pathetic ageist abusive director of IISER Kolkata, misbehaving brazenly. Yelling at students with a mic: a double-yell. To prove his hierarchical stature over students! And then yelling at a junior prof. who says (quite respectfully) that it's not acceptable to threat students (to which there is a round of applause - the only bright moment in this pathetic video apart from the visible protest by the yelled-at student, bravo!). Imagine a role reversal - faculty members chatting during a students' speech or talk. That too, in an informal setting over a dispute-resolution meeting. No big deal, right? This video speaks a lot about the democracy prevailing in so-called poster-boy institutions (And I am not even talking about the huge discrimination when it comes to caste). This is possible only because in research institutes the profs hold a disproportionately concentrated power over their students, practically able to make or break their career as a researcher. The direc...moretors are most often corrupt bureaucratic 'baastu ghughus' who have deep pocket connections with central govt honchos and influential and authoritarian scientists (administrators) with a big S. And because the students are unorganized - powerful elected student unions don't exist and no one at the top is accountable to students.
  • apscpys reply Dear Students of IISERK, Whatever happens... please try to cooperate with your director and let him lead your institute for long years..Please do not send him back here to IITK...
  • NEO reply @apcybs : Now I really wonder whom I should TRUST: http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/biologist-arrest-partho-sarothi-ray-scientists-shocked/1/184620.html
  • apcybs reply Primary issue: I don't understand that in these issues why Dean (SA) and other other committee members are not being questioned. Every small issue can't be handled by director. It tells that IISER kolkata faculty members are equally inefficients. Bunch of jokers have assembled together who don't know how to furnish their own responsibility. If things had been sorted out at proper level then this situation would have not arisen. Friends! blaming someone is pretty easy but don't forget that every person should know his/her responsibility. I am surprised to see the behaviour of that abnormal girl. people are mixing many issues here. But this is the fact that I have never heard or seen any studnet talking to the institute director in that tone and with those body language. Things would have subsided at that moment itself if she had told simply sorry. It seems now students have also forgotten that they had canteen/food issues. Now primary cause has become secondary and whole crowd is after...more director. What happened to Dean (SA)? What he was doing earlier if this problem was since beginning. Students! try to find out the real culprit. Don't go with emotions and in someone else's words. apply your brain and common sense. Now other part: don't bring the personal pasts and family matters here otherwise many people have their shameful pasts. For instance, the faculty who was interfering in between and trying to pretend that he was supporting the students (not in true sense) (please note: some people are opportunists and try to take advantages of situations and circumstances) , in fact is a crminial and he was in jail some months ago. He messed up with the Kolkata police and police put him behind the bars. After a huge effort taken personally by his then IISER director he was released. But still he has not changed at all. It seems he is facinated with rebels for no cause. Why someone is not writing about his past? To be very much true, he is trying to cover his past by giving fuel to students in these issue so that students attention will be diverted from him towards RNM. It is to be noted that even after 8 years, infrastructure of IISER kolkata is so poor that their classes have no chairs, fans and Acs then students should also understand who is the real culprit. What about the previous directors or administrators? Things should have been questioned at that moment itself. Initial days all the administrators of the institute including other top level people were busy in having fun, drinking and enjoying life and thats the real cause of this situation of IISER what you see today.
  • Satheesh reply Its not the question of him only, there are many many people like him in India and the committee appoints him as a director must know the history of this gentlemen, They should be questioned for negligence and others... this is insane... what can Modi government do for this... can they cleanse the system with proper safety and security and well being to the students !!!
  • IISER_Alumni reply I am an alumni from one of the IISER, now studying in America. I still see the situation of food in our institutes bad and find it disturbing. With all these issues in air, studies suffer. I have some mixed views about catering in Institutes and want to share them here. I don't see why institute assumes responsibility to run a canteen, yes given the fact that the institute is in a remote area the institute responsibility should only be to arrange for cooking and eating area, everything else should be fully student controlled, with the students having authority to decide the tenure of a caterers, stipulations, fine etc only then there will be some harmony. The young Asst. Profs aren't meant for handling the mess affairs, that is just not right ( frankly speaking they can give a good talk about ideal mess model and conduct nice professional mess meetings but when it comes to enforcing order and authority over the caterer they fail miserably because during their PhD abroad or wherever the...morey never had to handle such situations of friction, so if at all they act, they act soft). So calling profs, director etc for food related issues doesn't feel right. If I say this is what prof in India also sometime have to do, the profs here in US will laugh at it. I also see in America that no University manages at university level a three meal canteen as we have in India, they just provide catering space for different vendors and then the competition between the vendors automatically fixes the problem of quality. The universities here are as populated as it is in India and this system works, and works perfectly fine, no one complains. Only little inconvenience having this system is that you have to pay every time you eat, but then we can pay using card etc. Bottom line, I feel that monopoly of a caterer in university area is just not a good practice and should be abolished. Lastly, a small comment about the video, posting videos like this leaves a permanent scar on institute, now this will be there on Internet for eternity, this has gone viral, so in long run it'll do more damage than it does good if at all. (lol to the clapping part in video :p)
  • ex_studnt_iiserk reply @All those who are trying to defend him: Forget students.. look at the way he behaves with his colleagues. If IISER has to progress, this man has to go.
  • Ex_IITK reply Is this canteen operator a TMC cadre by any chance? I mean, RNM may be arrogant or short tempered but why would he tolerate a canteen operator who is so bad?
  • Ex_IITK reply @Manabendra_Ray, you respect him based on your experience with him. Others are complaining based on their experiences with him. People cannot forget what they have themselves observed and change their views about him and start respecting him just because you had high regards for him and he was once a good academician. His current job is that of an administrator and academic leader. Personal character and a cool head are essential for that position. Being a good academician is also important but being excellent on that front cannot substitute for other required attributes. Moreover, people change with time. You yourself have mentioned that he was young then. A quarter century has passed since. His competitiveness and aggression for excellence might have got transformed into bad behavior and short temper.
  • Vertigo reply Absolute insane! He should retire at will if he has some self-respect left anywhere! after the incidents in IITK, he seems not to have learnt his lesson, he still uncontrollably pounces upon girl students at sight!!! I am amazed!!!!
  • Vertigo reply I wish we could chime in too...with a healthy amount of sarcasm in mind....working this many years in science, across 3 different continents and several countries, have never ever seen a scientist as sly and never a director who is more self contradictory...Hail him....never deserves to be at the top..neither would he have been if Indian academic positions were fair and non-politicized.
  • ex_studnt_iiserk reply Being an ex student of iiser-kolkata, I know how things function in that institute. The so called director, RNM is a worthless piece of shit. Student's welfare is the last thing on his mind. Infrastructure development, safety, etc are not even thought about. The campus even now lacks basic facilities which all other iisers had years ago. Things started on a really bad note, with the previous director (Sushanto Duttagupta) being a habitual sexual offender. And RNM is just continuing in his shoes.
  • ex_student reply Prof RNM is an honest person at least as a director......his intentions are good....maybe the administration is not functioning to it's fullest....
  • bokwass reply Stop arguing. This is very common. Running a new institute is not a joke. Director has enough pressure.
  • another_faculty reply oh god, now we have someone posing as CNR, replying at 5 am in the morning. This is getting hilarious!! Such is the pressure to contain the dissent on this page that Mr. Mukherjee is pulling all tricks he can
  • cnr reply Please lodge all the complaints against your director to Central Vigilance commision at https://portal.cvc.gov.in/portal/index.jsp
  • truthsayer reply o btw, vid.me is headquartered in the usa so even if the Indian govt gives the slightest, tiniest piece of damn, then it has to request info from US. And that my friend is not so easy. the Indian govt asked for info on some 3000 google ids last year and google obliged for only a few very critical terrorism related causes. even those 3000 must be special cases. SO this guy @Rebellion is actually trying to drown the voice of truth, please do not fall for his threats, its probably RNM himself
  • truthsayer reply Folks do not bother what this rat has to say,
  • truthsayer reply @Rebellion welcome to the suckmedick club..get your lube ready and stop threatening people you piece of dump. The MHRD does not care what gets written here. RNM is molesting ppl, threatening students, if someone goes to jail that will be him and may be you too..
  • Rebellion reply @satheesh behave yourself maturely and present yourself in a respectable way. Don't think that these comments are untraceable. ALL OF YOU POSTING COMMENTS HERE JUST BE CAREFUL. EVERYBODY IS TRACED BECAUSE THE MATTER HAS GONE TO PM'S OFFICE AND MHRD.
  • student2 reply Director is expert in masking the facts through his temper... In the month of may this year, Dr Haldar suffered a lot when his lab was completely burnt in a fire accident caused due to improper safety and poor infrastructure provided by the institute. To maintain his reputation ,rnm hid this fact from public attention . http://www.anony.ws/image/Dq4X This is a picture of Dr. Haldar's lab (Prefab 3).
  • SDG reply Well done !! RNM ... I have done my part in the first 4 yrs of IISER Kolkata .... now its ur turn to finish up the things :) See to it that you exterminate all the dreams and hopes of young scientists before u leave iiser kolkata. My blessings are with you ...
  • Satheesh reply @ rebellion... pls cut the crap.. what do you mean think globally act locally !!! what is his mission and vision nothing... safety and security to students... safety comes through health and hygiene... Attitude--- can he do the same thing in international conference where he delivers a talk and other people talks or even sleeps in front row.. He does not even respect his colleagues... probably his position as a director must be questioned, which selection committee appoints him, they should take responsibility.. A good scientist --- what is good can you define... does he produce any entrepreneurial research and because of that has he created job to the public or what !!! what is crystallography and magnetic measurements, any one in scientific circle can do basic fundamental research. This country needs to create igniting minds for entrepreneurial research, this can happen by nurturing young minds not by shouting, disrespecting his own colleagues. shame that other colleagues supportin...moreg his wrong deeds.. India will never improve if he have such persons complementing each other for their wrong deeds. I am a young scientist with more high quality publications and other credentials, wanted to do something to this country but could not because of the blockage from these people. not only me there are many at the wings (including scientist from NASA) who wants to return to country to do something good, but they were not given opportunity neither failed in the interview for no reasons... If we do not have good head of institute these things will go on and on... corrupting the entire society
  • Rebellion reply The Root cause of this problem is the mere negligence of concerns when it is in a budding stage. Especially when it come to Health / Safety and Environment one has to take things to the utmost seriousness and bring in some changes at the earliest possible. As the Institute is new and facing some development issues, it is up to the director and the governing bodies to wisely decide the infrastructures and plan for the long run. There is no point in pointing fingers on others because tempers flared and situation was ugly. better dig out the root cause of this problem and bring in the action steps to be taken at the earliest. Personally i know RNM (I am not his Ph.D student but i was with his "opponent colleague" at IIT/K- interacted with him on several occasions on collaborations on Crystallography, magnetic measurements and etc..). First of all he is a man of "Expecting perfection" in his student, which is tough to achieve in practical situation. He has some weakness like all other peop...morele have. There are very good qualities in him and some bad (depending on how you look at it). of course he is short tempered too. If you are smart you can get the best out of him and be in good books of him. Scientifically he is good and he is a good teacher. He goes a step ahead to make sure his students get the best out of him and some times he gets into trouble when he mixes his short temper and high expectations. He has a "special soft corner" for girl students and when he plays this among other students in his group, people look differently and all sort of ugly feed backs and misinterpretations happen. I am not shocked to see RNM's aggression on that distracted/ impolite girl student who kept on arguing for no reasons (well that could have been suppressed if that girl concluded by saying sorry for not attentive to his talk-- totally a different story) and kindled the flamy conversation and ugly scenario. Anywhere, any situation FOOD Quality and Quantity should not be compromised on any reason. Higher officials should be careful in dealing with food vendors and contracts at reputed institutes. May this scenario be a stepping stone for future successful organisations and wise planning when it comes for Directorship. On a personal note to RNM: Take care of your health, don't boil your blood in your high temper. You are getting old and you have your family and retiring life ahead. Colleagues: Find the best possible solution through cooperation with your director. Students: A learning curve in your career period where something very valuable should be learned at no cost through this incident. Always Young minds come up with brilliant ideas-Come on you guys have the best solution to this. Channelize your thoughts and approach in a legitimate way. Think Globally and act Locally
  • Behave_properly2 reply @supermen Sir, Please note that your video was viewed in MHRD, DST, PMO and other departments in Delhi and was brought to the attention of Minister of HRD, PM and to Hon.President. Please note that the whole nation is looking at this video and all the comments need not be from your institute.
  • Indian reply As I read all the above post, it comes to my notice that most of the people who commented here are just emphasizing on the fact that how a student should behave with the faculty (RNM in this case) and how RNM cooled down later towards the conversation and how the attitude of a rude person like RNM has helped shape their lives etc. But does anyone notice the fact that how the so-called-director behaved with another faculty member (the thin guy in round glasses) in front of the students and other faculties? I would welcome all the great souls who have been supporting RNM's atrocity so far and come up with some logical explanation for this behavior of RNM's. If you truly have received some education - now would be the time to shut up and stop backing this person. Every individual in academia knows about RNM's past (and the present as we can see right now) and nobody with a sane mind or heart can disagree to the fact that RNM doesn't know how to behave with another human being whatsoever (...morebe it a student or another faculty with may be more credentials than him). I seriously think he should step down not only from his current position, but should never be given a chance to mentor a PhD student because this guy has some serious problems with his attitude in general. In other countries - for e.g in US, he should have in jail long back (I support the one who said this previously)
  • Satheesh reply Its not the question of hostel chapter and pride, it is the approach and attitude that takes beating. It is not only reflected in the treatment of student but also staff as well. It is disgrace that we have to live with these kind of people at the highest level. The person or committee who elected him as a director must take responsibility in cleansing this, as it is high time we should wake up. India has growing youth population if the guys treat the students and staff like slavery treatment, how he can incubate bright minds and produce scientific entrepreneurship in India. No wonder why the brighter minds go abroad and settles there and never returns... It is a sorry state of the entire country, produces bright igniting minds knowingly that they will export those minds to US, Europe and Australia all of them go and settle abroad!!! Those who want to do something for the country will be treated like donkeys by these ruthless people... Unless we wake up the story will continue for de...morecades...
  • truthsayer reply @iiserk_pride, what are you trying to say? forget all the bad things RNM did and remember his good deeds only? do you get paid to write this nonsense? even Osama did some good thing in his life, do you worship him too? RNM took advantage of a girl's vulnerability> oh that happens by mistake, maybe he got the rape virus which so many other Indian boys have. RNM yelled at a girl and behaved unprofessionally, he comes running at her and tries to intimidate her in the video> and you say oh this tape was pre-planned because the video is no shaking. What nonsense?? Did you ever use a camera? if you hold a camera and rest your elbows on the table, it will not shake, come out of that cave and speak sensibly. He ruined people's future forget that? if your near ones committed suicide because of people like him you would feel the same? he literally made life hell for his students. Then there is @SUPERMEN whose name should have been super semen, and says that what RNM does is between him and IISER...moreK students? really? in RNM's words itself, "IISER is not your dad's property". Now I want to use that word, IISER is funded by the public, you throw shit at people, behave like a criminal then people have every right to know, People have write to know your name, to comment about you and to inform others of your misdeeds. That's how democracy works you stupid beaver. If you rape a girl in IITK, people have to know and you have to go to jail. The fact is these rats go scott free and that just makes them bolder. Ironically RNM used this trick too often with his students. He would hit them/ abuse their parents and then tell them that whatever is happening is "between you and me". And try to give a sense as if the game only stays fair if it is between "you and me". The crime is never a private matter between the criminal and the victim. Please spread the word, please bring this criminal to justice. end rant
  • indian_student reply And please don't post craps like "good scientist" " good trainer" etc etc..!! Any person who is not from scientific field would have realized that what Dr. Mukherjee did was not justified! As a director of the institute he is supposed to be level headed and tactful..!! Whatever the situation is , he should have dealt with it with more maturity..instead , WHAT HE DID??? I mean, Who elects this persons?? On a broader perspective may be this is the pitiful condition of the education system of West Bengal right now..As far as my knowledge goes even the last director also had some issues..!! Reminding everyone: Bengal was known to produce the brightest minds in the country..!! I hope it still does.!
  • indian_student reply This ain't only about IISER-K now..This video has been viewed nationwide and th effects has already started to show..!! The very respected Director may now have to face the music!!
  • iiserk_pride reply Most of the comments here are becoming too personal and harsh! As far as I know, the problem of hostel canteen is solved now and it will be ‘student run’ from next month. It is unfortunate that several complaints by the student community were not heard by the authority before. Finding a decent contractor is difficult in an area like Mohanpur, and all the canteen owners are basically different sides of the same coin looking for profit and violating their promises. IISER Kolkata well wishers, I request you to maintain the dignity of the institute. If reputation of the Director is torn apart, remember the institute’s name is equally brought down. I look at Prof. R. N. Mukherjee as the Director who heads IISER Kolkata since February 2012. I am not interested to know how good a scientist he is, how bad he treated his students or how his kids are faring in their exams etc. IISER Kolkata is doing fantastic in academics, from performance of undergraduate students to high quality research...more, especially by the chemistry faculties. Right now the institute suffers from its basic infrastructure and I must say here that I find an honest effort from the Director in building the same. There is an enormous progress in the constructions since 2013 and that is only because Prof. Mukherjee could clear the hurdles and focussed his goals, which I believe is the best thing he has done. It is sad that IISER Kolkata is still growing even after 8 years and such a scenario is reflected from the lack of proper accommodation of the 1st year BS-MS students. Prof. Mukherjee might sound arrogant and he seldom listens to his subordinates’ arguments. Probably for many a feel-good atmosphere is missing. But except these personal traits, please look at the brighter side of his genuine ambitions in building IISER Kolkata. Lastly it is never a good practice to malign Head of the institutions. It happened in 2011 and it is starting again. Personally I value all your comments but I request you to maintain the reputation of IISER Kolkata and its Head. If the hostel food problem is resolved, let us close the chapter for now.
  • Satheesh reply It is pathetic to hear the story about the lack of attention from the highest authorities to the essential needs of the student. He should be sacked immediately, after all it is service to students and his salary is paid by tax payers money. Respect will come automatically, they way how you behave, it cannot be bought it has to come by the way of living... By the by we are simply human beings what respect we want to carry when we go to graveyard...
  • Student_IISERK reply @Manabendra_Ray It is good to see that people are actually reading the posts. What you have probably realized that this protest was not just because we do not like the taste of the food. The protest is because there is no food and whatever is there is inedible. Even Prof. Mukherjee has agreed that the condition is deplorable in any standards. What is worse is that despite repeatedly drawing the attention of the Institute, there was no action taken. Someone in the authority must be having his/her personal interest in retaining this vendor who provides stale food and has a recent history of misbehaving with college girls in a drunk state in campus. Why then Prof. Mukherjee, who is the head of the Institute not bringing these responsible culprits to justice? Instead in a protest gathering, he attempts to divulge the issue by shouting on one student. This is simply being manipulative. He is not shouting at a student who did not do his assignment, he is shouting at a student who is protesti...moreng for a right cause. Deplorable would be a kind adjective to describe the present condition of IISER-K. 3 junior students are being stacked in a room of 2. The present lecture hall complex is a complete mess. The building, which is supposed to be centrally air conditioned, does not even have a ceiling fan in every classroom (forget ac or other fancy stuff)! Most classrooms do not even have a proper chair with writing boards where students can sit and take notes. This is the standard of a national institute which your mentor is leading. Just compare the status of IISER-Pune, our sister institute that started off along with us in 2006 and you will now how terribly things have gone wrong here. We have been co operative all along, but there is a limit to everyone's patience. On this podium he stands as a defaulter and he should act accordingly.
  • Alumni_IISER_K reply RNM can be a very learned person and a great academician. But that doesn't make him a knowledgeable person. There is a difference between a learned person and a knowledgeable person. A person having such a monumental ego, can never be a knowledgeable person. If you count care fully you will find he utters the word 'I' 143 times in an one hour lecture. That is a ridiculous thing to do for the head of administration and is an indicator of sheer foolishness.
  • debamalya reply Of course a man has certain credentials and qualifications to become a director at one of the IISERs. But that said, no one has the right to abuse students (the typical high school teacher of older days attitude). As far as I know this man is super polite with higher ranked people and mean with subordinates. In brief: no personality. One ex-student from IIT-K chemistry once told me: "RNM has taken incompetence to a different level"... sums everything.
  • Student_IISERK reply @Manabendra_Ray Nobody is questioning the academic credibility of Prof. Mukherjee. IISERs are expected to be premiere research institutes and therefore it is no surprise to any of us that the Director of IISER Kolkata has an excellent academic as well as research career. But just being a good academician is not enough for someone who is the head of the administration. You say that his rude attitude helped you shape yourself. That is not the concern here. There has been an issue with the canteen and as the Director he cannot deny the responsibility of this horrible situation in your own institute. I do not know about IITK but new (permanent) campus of IISER-K is located in such a godforsaken place that if the students cannot find food at the canteen during dinner, he/she HAS TO go hungry all night. We do not have the luxury of all night canteens and similar arrangements which you in all probability have enjoyed at IITK. Agreed that he is not the person who should be feeding students bu...moret when there are innumerous complaints regarding food, he should have stepped in and taken necessary action in proper time. Instead, now when he is being asked why the Institute took no action against the vendor, he chooses to shout on a student as to why she is talking! I don't know how you interpret this but in simple layman terms, this is plane and simple diverting from the question. Something that our politicians are known to be excellent at and someone who is straightforward and speaks his heart would never do. He chose to shout on the student to scare her off. Just follow up of the basic law of dictatorship, "there are no problems if nobody dares to complain." Unfortunately that didn't work this time and so you get to see this fiasco. And @SUPERMAN has proved himself to be a worthy follower of Prof. Mukherjee. Someone who uses the words "bitchy agression" is indeed someone to be listened to!
  • Satheesh reply @ Manabendra Roy, He is a director now and has to set an example, even if it is a trap or fabricated video... It portrays his personality !!! director is to direct his staff, send strong message to students community and society, who pays his salary, students and tax -payers. In a simple saying tell me your friend I will tell you who you are" simply tell me the the name of the director of the institute I will tell you how good the institution will be in next few years.. It is a curse that we need to see such persons at the highest level, not sure how he got appointed to this level... People should question the committee for his appointment as director.
  • Student_IISERK reply For all who do not know the complete story, this was an absolute spontaneous outburst of the students in response to a long existing issue with IISER-K canteen. The current vendor who serves food at the only canteen in IISER-K where over 800 students eat regularly, has broken all records in serving stale unhygienic food. Countless official complaints had been lodged against the vendor but the institute never bothered to take any action. The Gymkhana Committee, which is the elected students' body have repeatedly informed the authority about the wrongdoings of the canteen vendor. Besides students have also personally complained through every possible legal channel. The Faculty-in-charge of canteen, the Dean of Students, the Grievance Cell, everyone has been repeatedly informed about the plight of the students. It is not just that students do not like the cooking or menu, but overall quality was being severely compromised. Students often found rusted iron nails in rice, pieces of fiber fr...moreom gunnysacks in food were day to day affair, and so on and so forth. The last note that the Gymkhana Committee had forwarded contained 86 points of concern regarding the canteen and not a single issue has ever been addressed. A recent addition to this list of complaints was the shortage of food. Although the stipulated canteen hours for lunch are dinner span for two hours, everything gets exhausted within the first hour itself. Given the location of this institute, there are almost no alternates available and students have to go hungry all night. The Institute is well aware of these problems but never bothered to take any action. This vendor also has the history of getting into the hostel drunk and knocking into girls' 'rooms. Even after that, the institute did not file any official complain against the vendor, completely hushed the incident and allowed this vendor to continue. The two brothers who run the business are extremely rude and misbehave. They do not even pay his workers properly and this was pointed out by the audit officers as a gross violation of labors' rights. The Institute in turn forced the students to pay the due wages. So at present, the students pay for their food, pay the wages of those who cook and serve the food, (the Institute anyway provides all utensils and other utilities such as electricity or cooking gas for free) and the vendor only collects the profit! On 13th Aug, as always, dinner was exhausted by 9:00 P.M. and many students were yet to eat. Everyone was disgusted and got into arguments with the canteen owners. In the process, the students got a chance to look into the cold store of the canteen only to find week old vadas, and pakodas still being preserved. Vegetables rolled on the floor in dirt and other food material such as paneer were found in extremely deplorable conditions. After this students called in the Faculty-in-charge of Canteen and the Warden. They failed to give any satisfactory answer as too why no action was being taken against this vendor or what will be the future of the canteen. They called in the Dean of Students who came in some time later. Even he could neither give any satisfactory answer nor could make any concrete promise as to improve the situation. All of them only made cliche promises such as we will look into this and sort things out in the next meeting and so on. They admitted that they did not have the authority to take any concrete decision and only the Director can make the final call. As the students refused to yield any such vague promises, the Dean of Students' himself called the Director to sort out the issue. To all those who think this is a planned mission to malign the director, let me clarify that the whole incident has been recorded so as to keep a document of everyone's "promises". The statements of the Dean or that of the other officials are also there. This particular video is only a part of the entire 6-7 hour episode. And this snippet, in my opinion, is enough to illustrate the character of the Director. Every meeting before has failed because the Director simply enforces his will disregarding the opinion of everyone else. The way he lashes out at Dr. Partha Sarathi Roy, (assistant professor at IISER-K) is a clear show of his extreme rudeness and disrespect towards others. Yes, we agree he is a senior experienced professor but that gives him no right to humiliate and disrespect others. The way he treats is fellow colleague in front of all his students is a show of his extreme arrogance which under no circumstances is agreeable.
  • superman reply that girl has some serious feminine issues... i think that is why she jumped to show some non-stop bitchy aggression (as in every film first few seconds show who gave the first shit... would like to congratulate the professor on his re-action, after all the guy is a director first, he must have some intimation style) but as every politically correct comment i would like to condemn violence, anti-feminism, antisemitism, pakistan, america, jihad etc etc
  • ks1 reply ha ha --- a cartoon character
  • bhopalscamvideo reply Apcybs , you are too late to defend rnm.
  • apcybs reply anyone may elaborate what the real problem was? seems all pre planned and plotted...
  • EYEBEE reply A RTI has been filed in IITK regarding the sex abuse by RNM. It is still awaiting reply. A letter has been also sent to president of India and MHRD. I am not sure how he got IB clearance for his present appointment. Please arrange for a great farwell for your Director.
  • Behave_properly2 reply Please twitter this video to President of India, Ministry of HRD, Narendra Modi, Smrithi Irani etc. in Twitter and facebook. We need to finish this guy as soon as possible. I agree with whatever Behave_properly wrote, as an alumni of IITK.
  • Samik reply Satheesh: Yes, one point I agree with you that the Director should have told the girl politely respecting to the position. This is absolutely true. Hopefully he did that after minutes and he got cool. But, conclusion cannot be made just watching this video. It is also baseless to bring his family members and their nature here. In our family we might find someone in some generation might be behaved differently. Lets analyse here as the role of a director and student. I wish a better relation among them. An Institute needs a good student-director relation. Defend or not defend is not question, we can just make an analysis based on this video.
  • socialguru9 reply So funny! The faculty has an extreme ego mind! I always search this kinda people on earth to make fun of!! Lucky girl!
  • Behave_properly reply For those of you defending RNM. You want to know who he is? I have seen all the hings i am stating below and he is the lowest human being I know of. When he was a professor at IIT, he started to sexually exploit a female graduate student. At this point he left for the US and his wife read his emails. and got to know of this. He was caught red handed, trying to molest that girl alone in his office. The girl was helpless since she worked for him. And like everything else at IIT, it was looked after by an internal committee where everyone is his colleague and he escaped unscathed. Yes shame on Indian Science. Then started his cover up as his crime is punishable by jail. So he started putting the girl's name in every paper anyone else published from his lab. He made life hell for every male student in the lab, literally called them "mother f&&&er" in bengali infront of the lab. He physicaly abused them, slapped them, pulled them by their collar and pushed them, drove people to tears, abus...moreed their family and this happened everyday. Someone almost committed suicide. Parents send their sons/ daughters to IIT with great hope but this man just ruined their dreams. Everyday he would press a buzzer in his office and his lab had to gather in his office. Then he would start abusing everyone in the lab. He would literally strip people of their dignity and self esteem. People worked at night when this tyrant was gone. This guy is director at IISER because he knows how to butter people. The way he behaved like a lackey with his advisor, who is a powerful man of 80 is just shameful. But he did so for his benefit. Its a shame when scientists stoop to this level. I feel ashamed. Otherwise this person has no credentials. He ran affairs with multiple women in his wife's presence. He recruited female post docs in his lab to exploit them. Then he came to lab and described repulsive details of what he saw. It is gross, and he is a shame. When i see people like this as directors of IISER, I feel disgusted. His daughter was almost fired from her institute in Bhopal for making a controversial tape with two other guys. His son failed ICSE, yes ICSE, the simplest exams in your life. And here is that man teaching the daughter of some other person, how to behave. He is a hypocrite. In USA he would be in jail, but he is lucky to be in India
  • Satheesh reply Samik bad example you have chosen, our parents won't shout us in front of millions of people... He is director, supposed to be educated person... and should have vision in bringing the community together rather than clinging on to the petty issues. I saw your directors website what vision he has set, nothing, what message he wants to convey to public and tax payers money... with growing youth population in India, has he addressing enterprise and engagement and how to nurture and incubate ideas... It is pity that we accept these people at the highest level!!!
  • Satheesh reply Smaik, I do appreciate your time in defending directors action... he should have ignored and continued with the message what he want to convey rather than showing that he is the boss and people have to kneel down to him is absolute slavery. it is the attitude of most of the people at the highest level in India... Unless these things changes in a friendly way, the youth will go corrupted mind and these master slavery attitude or virus will be passed on to the future generations... In my opinion, director should be officially warned for such actions...
  • gggg reply salute to the girl student... really good job.. in the name of director/supervisor/teacher this bad fellow always try to behave like dictator.... good job mam...
  • Samik reply Well, what is the problem is we carefully listen what our director says rather than arguing? What we follow at home when our seniors get angry on our attitude? Rather than point others if we keep silence and listen to the head of the Institution, what is the harm. Moreover when we are pointed and then also we would agrue? Staying abroad we cannot make a judgement. One has to learn the proper story. You are young and student which does not mean that you will violet discipline and argue with your Director when he already pointed you. Please understand from both side. Certainly both sides have mistake. But, on spot you can see the Director cooled down but students did not. That is the difference. Please do not take me I am supporter of a party. I just want a system where teacher and students understand each other and solve all issues.
  • Satheesh reply It is a great shame that the director of the institute reacted like this. What type of message he his conveying. If it is midnight or early in the morning or what who cares.. He needs to learn to respect the individual and ignore the ignorance and move on... If he does not have patience and does he needs students and others to bow to his word.. Enough of all these slavery, guys grow up.. if cannot move on.. Else you are spoiling the youth and younger generation. Samik respect should be given to every individual director is just a tag, he is also a human being with added responsibility in delivering at bigger stage thats all.
  • Samik reply The video does not show the timing. The day is Independence day and the director might be tired with program. It is learnt that the incident happened midnight (do not know the timing) and the Director came to hostel to talk to the students. Still, if students do not listen to him who is more than 50 years, it is natural that he would be angry. Moreover, he became normal. We should respect our Director and show discipline.
  • Samik reply The Video seems recorded with high resolution. Moreover it is not shaking and hence it is recorded with preplanned and not with mobile.
  • raj reply 1st, When a Director is giving a speech, we should not talk to others, specially when you r in 1st row. Better not to Argue when you have been noticed talking to others...... At last moment He became neutralised and cool, but students attitude made him more angry.....1st we have to show respect.
  • RNM_rat reply this guy molested his girl graduate student in IIT and then he got here buttering his mentor, an 80 year old guy. This person is the biggest fraud i have known.
