On April 24th, 2017, I called a company called "JC techies" who have created a fake web-based pop-up to try and lie and say that I have spyware on my computer and that all my details are being stolen. This of course, is indeed false. This pop-up is nothing more than a simple web pop-up to scare you into calling this scam company. Once I called the number that was listed on the pop-up and stated that I had a pop-up, the scammer on the other end of the line said that it seemed my computer was infected with a network infection, very common thing for scammers to say. Like all scammers, he wanted to connect to my computer, once connected he asked me the typical things scammers ask me, what do you do with this computer, how did you get the pop-up, etc. The first tactic he performed was the CMD tree command. This command simply lists the directories and creates a tree of everything in your computer. The scammer claimed he was scanning my computer, however, the tree command doesn't scan anything and you can clearly hear him typing a fake message that displays at the end of the tree result. Once the tree command was finished listing directories, the message he had typed whilst the tree command was listing directories appeared. It stated that the network security was damaged, drivers were damaged, and there was spyware on the computer. Keep in mind, this is a CLEAN virtual machine that was scanned directly before the call. Next, he says he is going to check how many spyware infections are on my machine, I asked him if the pop-up had appeared to warn me about the "infection" and after some explanation that didn't make sense he basically said yes. I found this funny considering that earlier in the call he asked me if I clicked on any advertisements which would have caused the pop-up. Next, he went to Event Viewer, Event Viewer displays all logs that your computer generates normally. He told me all of the normal logs were spyware and needed to be removed. After this, he went into notepad and told me everything that need to be "fixed" and what he was going to "fix". He told me there would be a $149.99 "fixation" fee. I asked him to give me the details of his company which he avoided and told me I would get all the info from the billing manager. I never did get that info from them. (I found it myself.) He then asked for my personal details in a notepad document on the same computer that supposedly had "spyware". He then, still without giving me company info, asked for my card details in an unsecure notepad document. I gave him a fake card. After all this, he tried to charge the card without my permission and finds out it's fake when it doesn't go though. He told me to "fuck off" on the notepad document and disconected and hung up. He must have been pissed I wasted an hour of his time and money, Hahahahahahah!
