As to "exotics" if you just look up vitamins an minerals you don't necessarily need to eat the "exotics". The example of bananas, you can get high amounts of potassium in potatoes. So the "need" for bananas isn't necessary to eat if you are eating potatoes. Vitamin C? drink rose hip tea, it isn't hard to find a "local" alternative for things everyone this they need to have due to dietary requirements the government says you need. Being an advocate of local food is a good thing as well, if more people did the prices at farmers markets could go down. Sad thing is most people either don't pay attention to what the AG department releases or they don't care about them.
