After winning her first spelling bee at eight years old, Sylvie Lamontagne realized that she loved words -- the more complicated the better. She went on to compete in national competitions, and placed 4th in the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee, her final competition before aging out of the bee… so what next? Now that retired speller Sylvie can no longer compete, she’s found a lucrative part-time job: spelling bee coaching. For $25 to $200/hr -- depending on the client -- Lamontagne is helping young competitors tackle the spelling bee, and learn to love language like she does.
