Following a one-week absence from television, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel returned to the air last night and delivered an emotional monologue explaining where he had been. Breaking down at times, Kimmel explained that his baby son needed heart surgery and went on to plead with President Donald Trump and Washington not to get rid of pre-existing conditions in health care. “No parent should ever have to decide if they can afford to save their child’s life,” he stated.
During a panel discussion this evening, CNN political commentator Matt Lewis took what could kindly be labeled as the unpopular position of criticizing Kimmel’s widely applauded remarks.
“I completely understand where Jimmy Kimmel is coming from, the passion I think is sincere,” Lewis noted. “I don’t think that this is the right move for him to do — to politicize this. This is a guy who is incredibly rich, of course. He is not going to have a problem.”
